Work Text:

To say Microphone was feeling awful would be an understatement. No, she was in the worst part of her life. Right after Taco rejected her, the shorter one seemed just as distraught of her words as the former, darting out of the room faster than a bullet train. Mic stood there in shock the entire time. She knew Taco felt the same, each awkward tension, each time they hugged, talked, even just looked each other in the eye, she could feel the same burning she felt coming from the other. So, why did Taco reject her? Was she not ready? Maybe Microphone should’ve just waited to speak to her…obviously each time she tried Taco was uncomfortable and excused herself. The British girl did just lose MePad, after all! Was she scared she’d lose Mic too? No, Mic wouldn’t leave Taco, not again at least.

Taco hadn’t come back to their room yet, it’s been almost a day. Microphone spent that time crying to Soap, who held her close and made vague threats towards Taco, which Mic quickly condemned once they fell from the pink bottle’s lips. After all, the shorter one shouldn’t be hurt for rejecting Mic, it’s her feelings after all! She was just…so sure Taco would accept. That’s what hurt the most. Not just the rejection, but the fact the British gal was shutting herself away from the taller one, like a scared kitten hiding under a table from a person who meant no harm- instinctual.

She just wished she could make Taco realize how much she loved her, how much she deserved to be loved, and how much Microphone just wanted to pick her up and kiss her silly till she was completely covered in purple lipstick stains (Microphone’s favorite color, surprisingly. Maybe Taco liked it too…). But, she…she felt like she ruined it, for the both of them. Ruined their little sanctity, the friendship that held them together wrapped and twisted around like a vine, through thick and thin, now snapping because of her stupidness. She should have waited, waited until Taco was ready to talk, instead of being ignorant and doing what her heart told her to do.

She grabbed her phone, needing a distraction from her thoughts, heavy with pining, longing, and loathing. She scrolled through her playlist, her finger hovering over one song she loved. In an instant, music comes out, loud and clear.

“Oh, Hannah, I wanna feel you close”

Microphone loved this song to an unhealthy level, she always imagined this “Hannah” girl to look like Taco, and her to be the one singing it. She imagined Taco’s face heating up, eyes wide, before she would wrap her arms around Mic and lean in- the fantasy never got to the kissing part.

“Oh, Hannah, come lie with my bones”

Her mind traveled to holding Taco in bed, arm wrapped around her securely, petting the soft lettuce in the other’s skull, a hum in her throat as she let out nothing more but a soft sigh in real time. At that time, Taco was peaceful for once.

“Oh, Hannah, don't look away”

Microphone would do anything just to have Taco look at her again- when Microphone went out to the kitchen, she noted the shorter one looking away with a gaze burning into the carpet, one of shame.

“Oh, Hannah, just look at me the same”

She wondered what would happen if Taco didn’t reject her, would they be…happy, in a sense? Now that Mic thought of it, it would be hard, challenging even, to be in a relationship with her. Well, Mic always liked a challenge. Especially when that challenge involved something so beautiful.

“I don't wanna be your friend, I wanna kiss your lips”

As if spawned by Mic’s unabating thoughts, a hesitant knock was sound. Mic paused, her finger gently tapping her phone screen, music abruptly stopping, much to the former’s disappointment. She swung the door open to see an extremely nervous Taco, who was twiddling her fingers.

“Mic- I know you, probably, wish to never see me again, but I need to- apologize.”

Did Taco really think she didn’t want to see the British gal again? That made Mic’s face twitch into a frown, before opening the door wide and side-stepping.

“Come in, go sit.” She ordered, her voice more tough than she wished it to be. She watched as Taco made her way to the plain bed, sitting down as she crossed her legs, her lips pressed together.

“Mic, I just-” Taco began, pausing as if thinking of what to say. “I didn’t mean what I said. I- I do feel the same, I’m just- I don’t know-”

“Taco.” Mic cut in, sighing. “I’m.. I’m gonna ask you something simple. What am I to you, Taco?”

“you-...Microphone, you’re everything to me.” With how genuine it was, the mentioned felt like her heart was exploding in her chest, before Taco continued. “Your- You're so amazing, and…beautiful, and I just- I wanna be what you want me to be.”

Fuck. Taco was crying. Hiccuping, tears staining her beautifully red face

“And I don’t know why- why you love me- I’m just- I’m so awful and unworthy of it, and I messed- ev-everything up, and- and you should- should hate me- and-”

Microphone couldn’t stand it anymore, wrapping her arms around the british girl, slowly petting back the lettuce that stuck out from her shell. She could feel her hesitance, the way she froze, before hugging back, sniffling and hiccuping out sobs, the sound ringing through the room as Mic sat back on her bed, laying down with the crying gal.

If this was any other situation, Taco would’ve been clambering to kiss and press against the other’s face.

(At least, that’s what she thinks she would do, but the reality is that she would just be a flustered mess, with or without the tears soaking her face currently.)

“Okay…now speak.” Microphone slowly said after the tears had calmed, the hiccups less common, the sniffling rare.

“...” What had Taco to say? She had already spilt all her feelings, although in a jumbled mess of words.

“Microphone….I love you.”

“I know..”

“...do you still feel the same?”

This was Microphone’s chance, to reinstate her feelings, to proclaim them, not be stupid. However, actions were louder than words, Mic was living proof of that. Mephone4 created her as a wildcard, something unpredictable, something odd. So she did something more unpredictable and wild than she had ever done.

Her smooth lips met Taco’s chapped ones, feeling the jolt of surprise go through the smaller one, wondering if she took it too far, too fast. Her worries were quelled as their lips began to slowly move in sync, an arm of her’s wrapping around the shorter’s shell, feeling a leg swing over her base, the two of them humming in tandem. Of course, all good things must come to an end, since breathing was a necessity. Taco is the one to force the break away, much to the two’s disappointment.

“You're so stupid.” Taco laughs out, airy and without malice. “Loving me of all objects? You…I love you.”

“I love you too…” Microphone breaths out, before bringing them back into another kiss, this time more heated. Her tongue slipping out and licking the other’s lips, getting a hum of confusion. Right. This could be quite possibly their first kiss ever, huh? For both of them… Mic was just going off of a movie she saw with Soap (all she could hear during most of the kissing scenes is Soap proclaiming how disgusting it was, and how many germs it spread). Of course, she pulls away to whisper in a hoarse voice:

“Op…Open your lips.”

Taco tilts her head in confusion (Mic can’t help but compare her to a puppy, how cute. Sappy, even.), before doing as told as Mic hesitantly moves in once more, a tongue sliding past those chapped lips of the shorter ones, and all she can think is ”Wow…This is better than how the movies portray them..” (She also thinks about how Soap and Tea Kettle will react when she tells them about this, it’s an amusing thought). She hears the shorter woman let out a sigh of longing finally relieved, one Microphone soon let out herself, their tongues tangling and pressing against each other. Finally, they pull away for air, their eyes meeting.

“I…I loved that. I love you.” Taco whispered, laying down with Mic as they cuddled, arms and legs wrapped around each other, faces close as their breath mingled.

“I love you too…” The taller one breathed out, before kissing her cheek softly.

Once a fool, not always a fool.

Letters can make new words, words can form love poems, letters and words can confess your love.

"Sooo, you and Taco are girlfriends now?" Soap asks, who had just heard the entire story of what happened from Microphone.

"Y-yeah, basically."

"That's cool...but if she ever hurts you or forces you to do something you don't like, tell me and I will break every limb she has and scrub her out of existence."

"Y-...yeah...okay..."
