You're like my heroine

Summary:

Shouta is impatiently moving his hair out of his face as he steps into the apartment. There was a quirk accident at work and now his hair is all puffy and floaty even though he's not even using his quirk and Shouta is annoyed.

"Hizashi!" he calls out and Hizashi meets him halfway on the way to the living-room. "I want it off," Shouta growls out because if his hair was short then he wouldn't even have this problem but Hizashi only stares at him for a moment and then bursts out laughing.

"Shut up," Shouta grumbles but allows Hizashi to herd him towards the living-room.

"You look adorable, Shou," Hizashi laughs out and Shouta glares at him.

Work Text:

When Shouta falls into bed his hair is still dripping wet and Hizashi is most certainly going to yell at him for it—for a ruined pillow just as much as his complete lack of haircare—but Shouta cannot be bothered right now.

The last mission was brutal and he'll be happy to sleep for twenty-four hours straight and his hair routine is really the absolute last of his worries.

"Shou," Hizashi very predictably sighs out as soon as Shouta is horizontal. "You could at least put a towel over the pillow."

"Ngh," Shouta manages to get out and hopes that it conveys everything he means, but especially that he doesn't care about this shit right now.

"You are unbelievable," Hizashi mutters and Shouta feels him get back up which prompts a decidedly more unhappy noise from him but before Shouta can force himself to open his still burning eyes to check where his husband has run off to, Hizashi is already back.

"Come here," he softly says and then tugs on Shouta until he's laying face down and then he gets to drying his hair.

He's careful about it, there's no tugging on any of the strands and the motion is repetitive enough to almost lull Shouta into sleep, which is exactly what his body needs right now.

"Good?" Hizashi asks as if he doesn't know that he's turning Shouta into absolute putty and Shouta lets out a sigh in response that borders too much on a moan when Hizashi starts to not only dry his hair, but massage his head as well.

"Mh, thought so," Hizashi smugly says and then simply keeps it up, even though Shouta's hair must have long been dry enough for him to sleep now.

But Shouta is not about to refuse a free head massage and Hizashi apparently likes to indulge him because he keeps going for a good long while.

When he finally takes the towel and his hands away, it's almost as if Shouta wakes up, except he hasn't really been asleep. He's still loathe to surface completely and so he simply decides to fully embrace sleep now when a nagging thought passes his mind.

It's nagging enough that he has to actually get his mouth to work once Hizashi is back to tell him.

"'s getting too long, I want it cut," Shouta mumbles out, face still mostly squished into the pillow but it's important that Hizashi knows because he sets up his hair-dresser appointments, so he needs to know.

It's actually a lot sooner than Shouta normally cuts his hair, but Shouta finds himself annoyed with his hair more often lately and so a haircut is clearly in order.

"Mh, you sure?" Hizashi asks and cards his fingers through Shouta's mostly dry hair. "Then I could no longer go this," he says, a smile in his voice as he starts to play with the strands of Shouta's hair.

It's relaxing—almost as relaxing as the massage had been—and Shouta melts back into the mattress.

"Fine, a few weeks longer," he acquiesces and Hizashi snickers.

"Whatever you say," he gives back as if he isn't the one who just decided this for Shouta but before he can point this out and start a real bickering argument, sleep finally claims Shouta.

He'll get back to Hizashi on that haircut when he's well rested.

"I look like I stuck my finger into an electrical outlet," he gives back because Shouta did actually take a look at himself before he went home and it's bad.

"And you think having short hair would make this better? Please. Your hair is thick, but not that thick; if you had been hit with a quirk with short hair you'd look like an actual troll doll."

"And this is somehow better?" Shouta bites out and tries to tug his hair down.

He is used to having it float because of his quirk, but this feels different; it feels strange and wrong and way too floaty and Shouta wants it to stop.

"It's definitely funnier," Hizashi snickers out and before Shouta can snap at him, Hizashi pushes him down onto the floor in front of the couch. "And it's easier to deal with, too. Wait here a sec, I'll be right back."

Hizashi puts his never-ending energy to good use and almost teleports through the apartment because one moment he's in the bathroom and the next he's back in the living-room, taking a seat on the couch behind Shouta.

Shouta got a split second to look at what he brought and he knows he spotted a hairbrush and possibly some hair ties as well and Shouta resigns himself to an hour on this floor.

"Now relax and tell me about your day," Hizashi says as he gets started with the brush and it feels strange, having his floating hair being brushes out and it's even worse, because Shouta can't tell if it's helping or not.

"You clearly already knew about the quirk accident so what else is there to tell. How did you even know about that?"

There's a brief silence which tells Shouta exactly what the answer will be and he silently promises Nemuri hell on earth when he sees her next.

"Nem called me. She was laughing so hard, it was hard to understand at first," Hizashi admits, clearly still amused by this entire mishap and Shouta supposes it's kind of fair, because as far as quirk accidents go, this is by far the most harmless thing that could have happened.

Still annoying, but compared to all the life-threatening shit they usually have to deal with, this is almost not worth mentioning.

Almost. The hilarious factor certainly plays a role, too, Shouta knows that.

"She's dead to me," he shortly says, which only makes Hizashi laugh again.

"She called me right after your agency called to let me know that you were hit by a quirk. We should either thank her or talk to your agency again, because they could have mentioned that it wasn't anything serious, but they didn't. Do you have any idea how worried I was until Nem called?"

Shouta winces, because he can imagine that all too well, actually. Hizashi gets just as panicked over messages like that than Shouta does, after all.

"Sorry. I'll talk to them again," Shouta grumbles out and wonders why it's so goddamn hard to give a brief rundown of what happened to the emergency contacts. "Maybe the agency needs to change the policy. I mean—this is hardly worth calling you over. You must have gotten a heart-attack when you saw their number."

"I nearly died," Hizashi agrees and then hums as he brings the brush through Shouta's hair over and over again. "Yeah, maybe a policy change would be good. This is harmless; there really was no reason for them to call me over this. Are you going to talk to them?"

"First thing tomorrow," Shouta agrees and then can't help but to let out a content little noise when Hizashi starts to card his fingers through his hair to section it up. "You gonna braid it?"

"Seems like the easiest solution to keep it all down," Hizashi gives back and Shouta leans into it.

He never much bothers with his own hair, but he does enjoy it so when Hizashi does. And he's right; if he had short hair, this would have been so much worse, so he simply closes his eyes and lets his husband work his hair-magic.

"I want—"

"Stop!" Hizashi cuts him off and then shepherds Shouta into the first empty room he can find, which happens to be a classroom.

At least it's not a closet, Shouta drily thinks before he crosses his arms in front of his chest.

"No, you don't," Hizashi tells him and Shouta frowns.

"You have no fucking clue what I want," he stubbornly says, because he hasn't even said anything yet but Hizashi only rolls his eyes.

"Please. We haven't been married for almost ten years for me to not know you. You want your hair cut," he gives back and then shuts Shouta right up by pointing a finger at him. "But you don't actually want that."

"And how would you know?" Shouta demands to know because his hair is annoying and he's been trying to cut it for years at this point and Hizashi just won't. Let. Him.

But enough is enough and Shouta is going to see it through this time.

"Because—" Hizashi makes a whole production out of just that one word and Shouta has half a mind strangling him where he stands when he finally goes on "—then you'd look exactly like Shinsou."

"What?" Shouta is completely taken off guard by that because what the hell has the kid he's training to do with any of this. "My hair isn't as fluffy as his."

"No, normally it isn't," Hizashi says and Shouta swears if he brings that quirk accident from a year or so back up then he is definitely going to strangle him. "But when you use your quirk, it is. Do you really want to do that? Do you really want to look exactly like Shinsou does? Everyone already calls him your son—great kid we made, by the way—and that would only make it worse."

Shouta blinks because that was a lot of information all at once.

"They call him my kid?" is what he blurts out first, because he thinks that's the most pressing one.

"Have you looked at him? He has your eyebags and your dead-eyed stare and your drive and if you cut your hair, he'll even have that. Bakugo calls him Eyebags. Midoriya has asked him several times if you two are related. Plus, you never take on personal students. Even Nedzu is intrigued. I think he's trying to get some DNA samples from you both to figure out the truth."

"What the fuck," Shouta breathes out because he hasn't heard anything about that at all, but he trusts Hizashi on that.

He's always so much more attuned to all the gossip at school than Shouta, after all.

"Okay, but he has a voice based quirk. That's more you."

It's a stupid argument, and not even the one they should be having, but it's all Shouta can focus on right now.

"I know! That's why I said we made a pretty great kid, all things considered. Have you considered adoption?"

"Hizashi!" Shouta hisses out because if there are already rumours about Shinsou and him then this is only going to make it worse.

"I've heard he's in foster care. Maybe something to look into, you do seem pretty attached."

"You—" Shouta hisses out and his capture weapon does wrap itself around Hizashi's throat at that, which dissolves into a petty wrestling match right there in the classroom.

By the time the bell reminds them that they are actual adults who have a job in this school, Shouta has long since forgotten all about his desired haircut.

~*~*~

Shouta is shaking with fear. It's like his worst nightmare come to life and the only thought in his mind is a very resounding NO followed closely by a desperate Hizashi.

The building that came down is still settling, stones still tumbling down from walls that haven't completely crumbled and for one terrifying, horrible moment Shouta is completely frozen before he jerks forward.

He has a good idea of where Hizashi was last and Shouta can still see some walls standing in that area which must mean that it's not so bad there. It must mean that Hizashi isn't dead, isn't crushed like Oboro was.

It has to, because if not then Shouta doesn't know how he's supposed to go on with his life.

He makes it to the area where Hizashi should be and starts to move the rubble with his bare hands because his quirk is actually fucking useless in rescue missions but he can't allow himself to think too much about this.

His only thought is for Hizashi and it doesn't actually take all that long until other heroes are there as well.

"Eraserhead?" someone calls out to him and Shouta doesn't dare to look over, feels as if this entire part will crumble completely should he look away.

"Present Mic was in the building," he pants out, hefting another boulder to the side and just like that, several rescue heroes are at his side, helping him in moving stones to the side.

"You sure he was in that part?"

"Last confirmed location," Shouta shortly gives back and that's the last they speak for a while.

It takes time—too much time, in Shouta's opinion—until someone calls out "We got him!"

Shouta drops the stone he was lifting without a second thought and dashes over, his heart constricting in his chest and his stomach already threatening to turn when blond hair comes into view.

"He's alright," the hero who found him says and Shouta stumbles over his feet in relief.

"Hizashi," he gasps out, skirting to a stop next to him and his hands flutter over Hizashi's body.

There are some obvious wounds on him, but nothing life-threatening, nothing that could snatch Hizashi out of his hands like Oboro was snatched away and Shouta bows his head in relief.

"You're like my heroine," Hizashi's gravely voice says and then he coughs, clearly affected by all the dust that's around.

Shouta lifts his head again, his eyes blazing red for a moment before he simply glares at Hizashi.

There's a bleeding cut on his head, but Hizashi's eyes are open and bright and there's a mischievous little smile on his face and all of that does more to alleviate any lingering panic than a medical professional ever could.

"I want my hair off," he hisses out and Hizashi laughs, and even though it dissolves into a pained groan it's like music to Shouta's ears.

"I know," Hizashi gasps out and reaches up to push the hair out of Shouta's face. "Booked you an appointment for the day after tomorrow."

"You—" Shouta's throat closes up on him, because he just loves Hizashi so damn much and clearly it's mutual, because Hizashi knows exactly when Shouta's hair truly becomes unmanageable.

"I've got you," Hizashi says, tucking that strand of hair he's holding behind Shouta's ear and really, it should be Shouta saying that to Hizashi, but clearly his husband doesn't care for conventions.

"I know," Shouta simply gives back and then holds his hand until he's being loaded into an ambulance.

Shouta has to stay behind to give a statement and when he finally makes it to the hospital, it's to pick Hizashi up, because apart from a few cuts and some bruised rips, he got off easy, for which Shouta will forever be thankful.

And two days later Hizashi accompanies him to finally get his hair cut.
