Chapter 1: (do) I love you...?

Chapter Text

In my nightgown, I awaken lying in my canopy bed at the peak of Pharloom, and now I begin my morning routine.
I rang the bell at my doorway and waited.
...Impudent louses!
They took 2 minutes longer than was demanded, but finally, my 4 favored spawn rushed into the room; they were wearing delightful red tuxedos and finely combed hair.
They all wore woody-scented cologne and were almost indistinguishable from each other.
4 dolls stood obediently by my bed and bowed low. "How can we please you, Mother-goddess?"

I told my spawn to ready me for the morning.
They quickly went through my wardrobe, 2 of them pulling out a white dress, the other 2 helped me out of my nightgown, letting my graceful form be known to their mechanical, obedient eyes before the other 2 helped me into a dress that sparkles with the light, I used to wear lace gloves around my hands, but my claws always tear through those.
I sat down and allowed one of the spawn to powder at my already pale face, smoothing out my appearance and making my cheeks rosier. I put on a perfume that made me smell of roses, but somehow, it was penetrated by the odor of old meals that always seemed to cling to my form no matter what.

The spawn that tended to my face was Coggie, that's what I called the spawn who was once the green prince of Verdania's lover; his real name was a secret he took to the grave.
And he was staring blissfully at me; it was the same type of happiness he used to feel with his green prince, I imagine.
Gently combing my manicured claws through Coggie's salt and pepper hair, his lips were smiling, but something odd was present in his eyes.
His face was trembling slightly, like an unbearable scream of horror locked inside. But why? Why was my spawn so fearful? What was so scary about taking care of your owner?

Coggie must be hungry, of course. I chose him to hold my hand and follow me to the dining hall for breakfast, while allowing the others to follow behind. Lace was waiting like a good doll, and prepared for my eating were a few rotund nobles outed as traitors, one of them was a minister.
Gracefully, I attacked the first, cracking open his ribcage and burying myself in the pulsing, wet buffet inside. I moaned, it was so delicious. Coggie was standing at the entrance of the room, no doubt starving.
I finally dismissed Coggie, and he slipped away to join the other spawn feeding in their respective areas. When all the food was gone, I licked my lips happily, but when I blinked, I realized that Lace had been forgotten entirely, and my daughter was left hungry.
A tear beaded in my eye, I blinked, flexed my claws, and stood up.
I was too busy to play with Lace.
I needed to focus on tracking down that Hornet.

Down at the forums, Romino and Ballador were waiting for me, we discussed the logistics, vampire spawn are very blood-efficient, so they would only need a few pounds of preserved blood for the trip into the white wyrm's lost city, but the landscape and collapsed buildings were a challenge, still, we were confident they were more than capable of climbing past such an obstacle.
Hornet... I felt so bad for the poor princess, royal blood, but forced to live in a ruined kingdom, I must find her and bring her into my arms. Only with me would she be brought to her true potential.
Lace walked up to me as I was walking out of the forums, but I had no time for her words.
I needed to talk to the architects; we had a rune cage that needed building.
