Work Text:
May stares in surprise as Ravi offers his hand to her.
Her mom had thrown a party to celebrate Chim and Maddie's wedding anniversary. So, everyone is here.
And sure, May and Ravi had gotten closer, but she didn't realize they were close enough for a slow dance. But she knows it's platonic to him, so she can handle it.
May takes his hand with a soft smile, and he guides her to the makeshift dance floor with their fingers almost intertwined.
"Sorry, I know you're not big on slow dancing," murmurs Ravi as they face each other, his hands finding their spot on her sides, gently resting there, almost hovering over her purple floral top.
May rests her own firmly on his shoulders in contrast, as she replies, "I don't mind slow dancing, Ravi. I'm just not used to slow dancing in front of the 118, but this is very nice."
They begin to sway as Ravi says, "Yeah, I get that."
She goes to respond when she's bumped into. It pulls a yelp from her throat as the move pushes her into Ravi's chest. She tries to catch her balance as his body leans back from the contact, his hands tightening on her sides firmly.
"Woah, are you okay?" asks Ravi with a low tone that's almost irritation mixed with worry.
May's face is burning as she pulls back to look behind her, a glare twisting her features as she sees her brother laughing.
"I'm fine, but my brother won't be tomorrow," huffs May as she turns to look at Ravi apologetically.
"He's playing matchmaker," Ravi says it with a resigned knowing tone that has her heart dropping into her stomach. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize they'd drag your brother into it."
"What are you talking about, Ravi?" asks May as her brows furrow. "He's doing this because of me. Who had a scheme?"
"Because of you?" Ravi seems genuinely confused now, and May can't blame him because she is too. "Eddie and Buck had a whole plan in mind to get me to tell you how I feel during a dance all because I mentioned possibly asking you to dance tonight."
"Oh? Harry mentioned confessing for me, if I didn't tell you tonight," replies May sheepishly as she feels hope light up her body.
Ravi's eyes seem to brighten as he brings her closer, and she moves easily with him, her fingers interlacing behind his neck as his hands slide around to her lower back.
"Does this confession have anything to do with you liking me enough to want to go on a date and maybe let me kiss you?" asks Ravi softly, head tipping to the side with hope.
"If you don't kiss me, I'll make the move first," replies May seriously as she leans up and brushes their noses together.
When he kisses her, it's like the world narrows in on her. It's perfection, and she sighs into it as cheers echo around them.
