Chapter Text
September 23, 2018 Diaz Household.
Eddie started to wake up and it took him a few minutes to get used to the sun shining through the window but once he blinked a few times that's when Eddie turned around and saw his beautiful husband of only a year and he smiled to himself.
It's been 3 years since Eddie met his husband and he met him in the most horrific way possible.
Eddie doesn't like to think about how his husband came into his life that much as it isn't the best memory to think about but he also wouldn't change the way he met him either.
While Eddie is staring at his husband said husband starts to wake up a little bit.
“You're staring again.” Evan says.
“Well I can't help it if I find you irresistible.” Eddie says and he kisses his husband on the lips.
“Well that's one way to wake me up.” Evan says.
“Oh I can think of other ways.” Eddie says.
“Eddie, we are not having sex while our son is in the next room.” Evan says.
“Who said we have to go all the way?” Eddie asks.
“Edmundo Diaz you are a nightmare sometimes.” Evan says and he laughs.
Eddie just kisses his husband and Evan responds with a kiss back.
“You go wake up Chris and I'll go and get started on breakfast.” Evan says.
“Ok.” Eddie says and he gets out of bed and leaves the room.
Evan gets out of bed and he goes to the mirror and he takes a look at himself and he has come to be proud of the scars that cover his face and body.
Evan doesn't remember much about how he got the scars all he remembers is that he was involved in a car crash and that's how he met Eddie.
It took time for Evan to get used to the scars especially when he and Eddie were out in public as a lot of people would stare at him and he felt uncomfortable and he would end up having a panic attack.
Evan pulls on some sweatpants and a t-shirt and he leaves the bedroom.
Eddie enters his son's bedroom and he gently wakes his son up and after a few attempts that's when Chris starts to wake up.
“Morning pal. Are you ready to get up?.” Eddie asks.
“Morning daddy, yes let's do this.” Chris says.
“Ok. Do you need help or are you fine doing things yourself?.” Eddie asks.
“I'm fine doing things myself but I'll let you and papa know if I need help.” Chris says.
“Ok.” Eddie says.
Eddie and Evan have always let Chris decide if he needs their help or if he can do things himself.
“Breakfast is ready.” Evan shouts out.
Chris gets out of bed and he grabs his crutches and once he gets himself steady he walks out of his bedroom.
Chris enters the kitchen and he sees that his papa has made pancakes,chocolate twists,pain au chocolat and pain aux raisins.
Chris also sees that there is orange juice, apple juice,ribena and vimto on the table.
Evan places his and Eddie’s coffee on the table and Chris picks up his glass and his hands shake a little.
Evan sees that and he looks at Eddie and he sees it too.
“Chris, do you need me or dad to help you hold the glass?.” Evan asks.
“Only to hold the glass.” Chris says.
“Only to hold the glass.” Evan says.
Evan holds the glass whilst Chris pours himself some apple juice and he only spills a little bit.
Eddie cleans it up and they don't say anything.
Evan sees Chris pouring a lot of apple juice and the glass is nearly full.
“Ok buddy that's enough.” Eddie says.
Chris puts the apple juice down and he gets started on his breakfast.
“So are you excited to start at the 118?.” Evan asks Eddie.
“Excited but nervous if I'm honest.” Eddie says.
“Why? Thought you passed the certifications to work at the 118?.” Evan asks.
“I have and I know I can handle the pressure but I don't know it's just the captain he seems very odd.” Eddie says.
“Odd in what way?.” Evan asks.
“I know that he lost a firefighter and my heart goes out to him but I don't know maybe I'm over thinking.” Eddie says.
“Well what you do is just see how your first few days go and if you feel like you can't be there then maybe ask for a transfer.” Evan says.
“Yeah. I won't hold it against the guy as I'm sure it's been hard for him and the people he works with.” Eddie says.
Evan nods and he picks up some pancakes and a pan au chocolat.
“So when are you due to start your shift?.” Eddie asks.
When Evan,Eddie and Chris came to Los Angeles Eddie and Evan had applied for the LAFD academy.
Evan doesn't know why he felt drawn to the LAFD but he knew that he was meant to apply.
“I'm only on an 8 hour shift today so I'll be able to pick Chris up from school as your 24 hour shift starts after you take him to school.” Evan says.
When Evan passed the academy he got assigned the 136 as the fire house he would be working at and he has been there for at least 3 months.
“So how are you liking it there as you haven't said much?.” Eddie asks.
“It's going ok. I've had a lot of people stare at my scars a lot.” Evan says.
Evan has always been self conscious about the scars and when people stare he feels uncomfortable and he starts to doubt himself.
“Has anyone said anything to you?.” Eddie asks.
“No, they just let their eyes linger too much over them.” Evan says.
“Well if you still feel uncomfortable then you make sure that the captain does something about it.” Eddie says.
“Don't worry I'll make sure to go to Captain Cooper if it gets out of hand.” Evan says.
Eddie nods but he still looks worried but he trusts his husband and if he says he can handle it then he won't doubt him.
“Chris, why don't you go and get your dad his present.” Evan says.
Chris gets up off the chair and he goes to his bedroom and gets the present that he and his papa put a lot of thought into.
Chris comes out of his room and he has a package under his arm and he comes back to the table.
Eddie takes the present from his son and he wonders how Chris managed to hide it.
Evan and Chris smile as they know Eddie is wondering how sneaky they were.
Eddie opens the present and it's a watch and he turns it over and it has 2 dates on it and Eddie knows that they are the dates that they officially became a family.
“I love it.” Eddie says and he hugs his son and gives his husband a kiss on the lips.
Evan can tell Eddie cried a little bit but he doesn't say anything.
“Ok superman time for you to get ready for school and I'll see you when I pick you up.” Evan says.
Chris hugs his papa and he goes and gets ready.
Evan goes and does the same and he comes out of the bedroom 40 minutes later and he goes and picks his bag up and his mobile and car keys and his house keys are attached to them.
“I'll see you tomorrow when you get back.” Evan says.
“You stay safe.” Eddie says.
“You too.” Evan says.
After another kiss and a hug that's when Evan leaves.
Eddie knows that he has found his person and he knows that Evan is a better person than Shannon ever was but Eddie has this fear that when his husband remembers who he is then he might leave Eddie and Chris and that terrifies Eddie but he won't think like that.
After cleaning the plates and making sure Chris has everything for his first day at school, that's when Eddie goes and gets ready.
Eddie knows that he is lucky to have his husband as Evan always makes sure that Chris comes first.
“Dad, I'm ready.” Chris calls out.
“I'll be there in a few minutes.” Eddie shouts back.
Eddie gets ready and he then leaves the bedroom and goes to his son's and he sees Chris just needs help tying his laces.
After tying his son's laces, Eddie goes and gets his bag and his son's bag and they both leave the house.
Eddie helps Chris into the truck and he gets in and drives off.
Eddie pulls up at the 118 and he gets out of his truck and grabs his bag and walks inside.
Hen was speaking to some other firefighters and they were asking how she was and if she is getting the right support.
Hen sees Eddie walking in and she knows that he is the new firefighter joining their shift.
“Excuse me, I'm looking for Captain Nash?.” Eddie asks.
“He is just in his office as he is just speaking to the chief but I'm Henrietta but people call me Hen and we will be working together.” Hen says and she introduces herself.
“Edmundo Diaz but people call me Eddie.” Eddie says and he introduces himself.
“Well nice to meet you and I look forward to working with you.” Eddie says.
Hen shows Eddie where to get changed and she tells him to meet him up in the loft and she will give him a tour.
Eddie gets changed and he takes his wedding ring off and puts his other one on as he and Buck got ones that they can wear at work.
Eddie puts his ring on to his Saint Christopher chain and tucks it safely under his uniform.
After closing his locker and putting his name on it he leaves the locker room.
