Chapter Text
~🌻—'*^*'—🌻~
Pearl stumbled along the path, continuing to push herself forwards even as her body screamed for rest.
She had to get away, after the death of her family in the werewolf attack, she had to get away from home, and hunt the monsters before they could hurt anyone else.
The moon rose high in the sky and Pearl watched its silver sheen in the night. You'd think, after losing your family in a werewolf attack that you'd not appreciate its light, but Pearl found the moon's soft glow welcoming, familiar and calming in a way that she'd never felt before the attack.
But then again, her memories of time prior to the attack were a little fuzzy…
Must be the head injury.
She continued on, the pinewood forest rising up around her as if reaching for the stars. A part of her agreed with the trees, that if she could, she'd reach out a hold a star in her hand. (A stupid part of her thought she could.) Of course, she couldn't, so she just had to keep pushing on to stop the monsters before they hurt anyone else.
Did that make her a monster? She didn't know, and a part of her didn't care. She had a mission to finish, morals be damned.
The path twisted forwards, and she couldn't help but yawn. It was late in the night, the woods were lovely, dark and deep. But she had promises to keep. And miles to go, before she sleeps.
She pushed on, the sound of a creek babbling reaching her ears. Her legs ached, her bones wailed, her breath was that of a train engine, overworked yet chugging on one more rail, a destination to be had before it could refuel. The only difference between her and a train was that she had no destination in mind, just elsewhere.
She stumbled, eyes heavy, though she tried to stay vigilant.
Just one more step forward. One more step.
Her leg shook, giving out as she nearly fell to the ground, only catching herself last moment on a tree.
Ok, fine, she could rest.
Pearl stumbled into a clearing, one with a beautiful view of the moon and sky, and piled leaves and grass on the ground before flopping back onto it.
~☁️—'*^*'—☁️~
She blinked, and the moon turned into the sun.
Morning already? She must've been more tired than she thought.
But no, as she sat up, she saw not pine trees around her, but endless fields of grass and gently rolling hills, a light breeze blowing through her hair, blades of grass swaying back and forth in a delicate dance.
A stranger stood a little was away, a tattered brown cloak draped across his shoulders, falling in a diagonal cut over his cream tunic, legs clad in dusty brown pants held up by a rich chocolate sash, the same color as the boots on his feet. He was turned away from her, so she could not see his face.
Hesitantly, she got up from the ground, taking a few steps forwards and reaching out towards the stranger.
"Hello?" She intoned.

She blinked, and she was standing in the clearing again, hand reached out towards a tree. Sunlight started to peak over the horizon, and she felt rested.
Pearl's had dreams before, but never this strange.
She blinked, dropping her hand to her side and picking up her pack, slinging it over her shoulder.
She had a mission to complete, afterall. Strange dreams couldn't hold her back.
For these woods were lovely, dark and deep. But she had promises to keep. And miles to go before she sleeps.
And miles to go before she sleeps.
