Lore: They live in an alternate reality parallel to earth. Earth is where they had originated, and had found out that its end is near. With help from the blessings of a mysterious being (the fandom), they have been granted the power to travel to alternate realities and find resources necessary to stop the destruction of earth. Each music video represents a different alternate reality (unless mentioned or depicted as being a continuation of another), and at the end of each, that reality is destroyed. With each comeback, they are in a new reality.
Reason for rise to popularity: Yoo Junghyeok had become annoyed with Kim Dokja and had choked him, and this had been recorded by a fan. The video went viral, and thanks to the bl appeal, they began being flocked by fans. As people discovered their music, they started liking it and their concept as well.
