Work Text:
Viktor really wasn't feeling well.
The past few days, he'd seemingly entered some sort of flare-up with his illness. He was in excruciating pain, he kept coughing and, worse, his stomach had been acting up.
He felt dead on his feet but, ever the workaholic, he just kept going and going and going.
It wasn't long, though, before he crashed.
He'd gotten up from his work station to stretch and go to the bathroom when he suddenly felt incredibly dizzy. The room spun around like crazy and he went to reach for his crutch, but...
It was too late.
He stumbled and collapsed to the ground, spots filling his vision as he coughed up blood onto the floor.
Then, everything went dark.
When he awoke, he was in his quarters, but hooked up to an IV with oxygen being fed through his nose. Jayce was at his side, looking worried, and his crutch lied dejectedly against his nightstand.
"You're awake" Jayce breathed, unable to hide the relief in his voice. Viktor opened his mouth to respond, but found himself too exhausted to do so, so he closed his mouth again and just gazed at the other man drearily. "You were passed out in the lab and there was blood by your head. I was really worried, V"
"I'm fine" Viktor dismissed tiredly. Jayce sighed, then leaned forward and kissed his partner on the side of the head.
"Please, just... Try to rest, okay?"
"There's work to be done"
"Work can wait" Jayce insisted. "Your health can't"
"I don't have time to wait" Viktor argued, his voice coming out more emotional than he would have liked. "I'm on borrowed time, Jayce"
"So make the most of it" Jayce replied, shoving down the pit of sadness that formed in his stomach whenever he was reminded of the fact that he'd almost certainly outlive the terminally ill man. "I'm here for you, and I love you. Please just rest, V. For me"
Viktor sighed and looked up into Jayce's pleading eyes. How could he say no to that face?
"...Okay"
