Summary
Johnny Cade and Sodapop Curtis have always been close, closer than anyone seemed to notice. In the middle of gang fights, broken homes, and the pressure of being greasers, their friendship becomes the one place they both feel safe, safer than they ever even felt. Late-night talks turn into lingering touches, and eventually into a relationship past friendship neither of them evendares to reveal.
But Johnny carries more pain than Soda realizes. Haunted by his abusive home, the violence around him, and the fear that he’ll only bring trouble to the people he loves, Johnny spirels into a world of trouble. Soda tries to hold him together with quiet reassurances, and promises that things can get better.
Their love grows in whispers and hidden moments, but the weight Johnny carries keeps pulling him deeper into despair. As the two struggle between hope and heartbreak, Sodapop must face the terrifying possibility that love alone might not be enough to save someone who no longer believes they deserve to be saved
