Summary
The NHL, like most professional sports leagues, didn’t allow unmated omegas to play. Most omegan pro players had been call-ups from the AHL, where they’d been scouted out of college after mating. Even then, their careers were short, and they made less than one percent of the roster over the NHL’s nearly century long history.
There was no precedent for players like him. A prodigy that had caused waves when he’d been bumped up to Bantam Hockey at eleven years old. Analysts had been talking about the potential of his eligibility for the 2009 draft class when Shane had made Tier 1 in the off-season. He was only weeks away from pre-season training with his new team.
None of that mattered, now.

Or, being an omega in the NHL comes with battles on and off the ice, and it starts way before Shane ever gets drafted. Changing the game means more than sweeping the league with his talent, or breaking records, or being the best.
