Work Text:
Husk had trouble sleeping at the best of times but, with the newfound popularity of the Hotel and, in turn, the added stress, his insomnia was worse than ever.
This would be bad enough as is but, of course, it couldn't just be the one thing. No, because he was so exhausted, his threshold for sensory input was significantly lower.
The Hotel was packed, and he was tired as shit after having not slept the past few days, but Alastor had him working the bar anyway. Charlie kept bugging him every few minutes, it was too loud, and-
Then it happened.
He tripped on his tail and the drink he was carrying spilled all over him. His fur was wet and sticky, and now a customer was yelling at him, and he just... He couldn't do it.
He sank to the floor, despite the calls of customers, and completely shut down. He curled into a ball, pulling on an ear with one hand and hitting himself on the side of the head with the other, all the while rocking back and forth.
A low whine escaped his mouth, and the small part of him that was still conscious of the situation felt embarrassed over the display.
Then, someone was touching him and it was too much, and then he was being lifted, and... Quiet?
He opened his eyes slightly and realized he was in his room now, sitting on the floor. In front of him, Angel was kneeling and saying something, but the sound was unintelligible to Husk.
Angel seemed to realize this, as he stopped talking, handed Husk a small stuffed animal, and sat next to him quietly.
It took a while but, eventually, Husk began to calm down.
"Hey" Angel said softly when Husk finally uncurled, exhausted and wrung out. Husk only now noticed that Angel had removed his boots, which was one of Husk's particular rules about being in his room. He hadn't expected Angel to remember such a thing, and it made him feel warm inside. "Can I help you to bed?"
Husk lifted his hand and signed the word Yes, too exhausted to speak, and allowed himself to be carried to bed and tucked in. He didn't love that Angel was touching his bed, but the man was careful not to make a mess of things.
This whole ordeal was humiliating but, for some reason, Husk didn't feel as bad about it with Angel there. He couldn't dwell on it long, though.
He drifted off very shortly after his head hit the pillow.
