Call the Healer

A Compendium of Interesting, Amusing and Educative Cases from the Second and Third Ages
Compiled by Erestor Faellosion with the assistance of Celeborn Galadhonion

It is widely acknowledged that the Healing Houses of Imladris have earned their place at the forefront of innovation and excellence in the healing arts. Long had the former Lord of this honoured house striven for such and, it must be said, their efforts have brought about great good both locally and across the free lands. Many a fine leech first learned their craft in Imladris before returning with new expertise to the lands of their birth. There are, by now, many great healing traditions, begun by their hands, alive and well throughout the free lands that can credit Imladris as their source. It is most gratifying to see the labours of Master Elrond receive their due, both in real benefit reaped by so many of the ailing among the free peoples and hearty respect for their tireless work. The knowledge that has been discovered, collated and taught here in Imladris will no doubt continue to be of much use to all who remain in Middle Earth for ages to come.

As Imladris’s tenure as the preeminent healing institution in Middle Earth comes to its end, with the last of its people removing to the West, it has been my task to put in order the vast archives of documentation accrued within the Healing Houses over the past two ages. In the process I have found, hidden among what one might assume are dry pages of assessment and progress notes, many poignant and moving tales pertaining to various injured and ailing that have sought succour in Imladris throughout the years. The common Elf, Dwarf or Man may be unaware of the ups and downs that come with the daily practice of leechcraft. The stories recorded upon these pages shall surely enlighten those who wish to learn.

Here-in the reader will find a varied collection of case notes taken from the records of Imladris’s Houses of Healing during the Second and Third Ages. It is my hope that they will find in each something of value, whether they inspire amusement, hope or compassion. Be assured that in all cases consent has been obtained to share what are, at times, rather personal tales, either from the former patient themselves or representative next of kin that remain on these shores. Appropriate pseudonyms are used at the subjects’ request.

Without further ado, I present this eclectic collection of cases and wish the reader an educative experience.
