I Wuv My Goldfish Crackers :3

Summary:

STATUS: Completed/Finished!

- - -

Subspace likes his tasty, beloved goldfish snacks! My silly, silly scientist boy :D
All he does is eat goldfish (the crackers) at 3 AM, that's it, in all seriousness.

Notes:

An Important Headcanon: Medkit is not affected by the toxic, hot pink gas Subspace exhales thanks to his natural healing aura.

Work Text:

Medkit's POV (Current Day in the Phighting Universe)

[As with all my stories, none of this writing is final and it is subject to change frequently!]

"Subspace?" Medkit called out to the darkness, his eye attempting to skim the shadowed living room.

Nothing answered him, unfortunately, which only made the healer more determined to find the scientist who had not been resting beside him like every normal night when he had last checked on Subspace. Medkit slipped out a black flashlight and flicked the switch on, sweeping the hallway with the beam of light.

"That dumb idiot... I wake one time at 3 AM and Subspace disappears like a ghost, of course," Medkit grumbled to himself.

His mint deer ears swiveled around, trying to detect any noise that could potentially lead to Subspace. He wasn't going to give in so easily. Not when his boyfriend vanishes so suddenly during the early morning. On queue, his nose detected the faintest scent of something a little salty. Of course, he's eating... Why wouldn't he be?

He hadn't even stepped forward again when he heard a moderately loud crunch. Medkit paused, squinting into the shadowy halls, only to see nothing. Wait, is the pantry light on? He cautiously trudged forward, feet hardly lifting off the floor since sleep was still tugging at his sore body. He rounded the corner with the flashlight clumsily gripped in his right hand and pointed it to the pantry, where the light was, in fact, on. There was Subspace.

The scientist's hair was messy enough to be qualified as a bird nest, long-sleeved hot pink pajamas on, gas mask abandoned on the pantry floor tiles, and sitting on his knees like a toddler chowing down on something they weren't supposed to be. Subspace's back was toward Medkit, so he didn't see the healer, but it was now clear that he was gobbling up a carton full of Goldfish crackers with the enthusiasm of a rabid skunk. His centipede tail thumped the floor in contentment every time he shoved a handful of the orangish yellow snacks into his uncovered mouth.

"So tasty... Very good, much good. The goodest of good," Subspace muttered between a mouthful of Goldfish.

Medkit stared, and stared more for a solid seven seconds before dryly grumbling, "Subspace... what are you doing in the pantry floor eating a bunch of fish-shaped crackers? Also, 'goodest' is not a word."

The scientist shrieked, and might as well have launched into orbit from the sheer height he jumped, "MEDDY??" He spun around in shock, accidentally releasing a cloud of hot pink, toxic gas in the process, "WHEN'D YOU GET THERE?! HOW LONG-"

Medkit interjected, "Only a few seconds, calm down, drama king."

Subspace's cheeks flushed red, "Sorry, heh... I am in trouble?" His pointy ears twitched guiltily.

Medkit tilted his head in fond exasperation, sighing indecisively, "No, but... I'd prefer if you didn't mysteriously disappear at 3 AM without a trace."

Subspace nodded sagely, "Fair enough. Do I have to clean this up?" he whined in realization.

"Unfortunately, it's your mess, so you have to clean it up. Please don't make this a big deal," The healer answered sarcastically, rolling his eye and crossing his arms firmly.

"Awww man..." Subspace kicked his legs like a pouty child.

"This is your own fault, you little... goofball," Medkit attempted to sound unaffected, but the statement sounded ridiculously affectionate.

"Fine, fine... yes, sir..." Subspace mumbled reluctantly, scooping up the spare Goldfish in his clawed fingers alongside a puff of toxic gas that spiraled into the air then around the scientist's head.

Medkit stiffened at the 'sir' nickname, "Do not- Don't... call me that," he stuttered out, heat crawling up his neck.

Subspace giggled at the color creeping up the healer's nape, "Did I embarrass you~?" he purred.

Medkit forced himself to clear his throat, "No," he denied weakly.

Subspace didn't pry further, content with his boyfriend awkwardly standing there as he finished picking up his personal cracker mess.

The End :3
