Chapter Text
“Are you in there, dear?”
Holding delicately onto the yellow doorframe, Blue poked his head into the special punishment room his beloved happened to own, searching for any sign of life. The room appeared to be empty, with barely any audible sounds other than the gentle ripples of the water as lily pads gracefully glided along its surface. For a room made to punish people, it was surprisingly relaxing.
But that, of course, wasn’t why Blue came. He had done this a handful of times; whenever he saw the door to the room was left open, he knew Yellow had done something that he deemed deserving of death. It was unfortunately uncommon to see him digging his own grave in the sand. The poor man was so strongly disturbed by any crime, and while Blue admired this to an extent, he didn’t quite enjoy that this included his own mishaps.
Sighing, Blue took a light step inside, beginning to tip-toe around until—
“BLUE?!”
A familiar voice called to him, and before he knew it, his lover stood before him, grasping his shoulders in frantic desperation. His wide eyes were slightly wet, a detail Blue noticed almost immediately.
“What are ya doin’ here?!” Yellow shouted, his voice shaky. “You ain’t gonna do anythin’ to yerself, are ya?!”
Blue smiled sweetly, resting his hands against Yellow’s cheeks. “No, that’s not what I came for.”
Yellow’s body quickly relaxed. “Oh, phew… then why’d ya come?”
“The same reason I came last time.” Rubbing Yellow’s face with his thumbs, Blue’s smile turned somewhat solemn. “I wanted to check on you, darling.”
The cowboy stood silently for a moment, averting his eyes and tensing back up. The shimmering water in his eyes grew bigger.
“What happened?” Blue asked in a soft voice.
“…I done messed up, hon.”
“How so?”
Yellow swallowed. “I… I was tryna find a spot for that bouquet ya got me… an’ Aqua ran past, an’ I tried to avoid her crashin’ into me, but I… fell over an’…” He sniffled and winced.
“…landed on the bouquet…”
Blue’s eyebrows raised.
”It got crushed to bits,” Yellow continued. “An’ so I went here… I was boutta bury myself.”
“And that’s why you’re here?”
Yellow nodded and hung his head low. “Yeah… ‘m real sorry, Blue… I know ya worked hard on that for me. I didn’t wanna hurt all yer flowers.”
Blue just stared for a moment, taking in the sight of the man he loved, hunched over before him. It was clear this little incident was taking a huge toll on him.
It always pained Blue to see Yellow like this. He never deserved to suffer as much as he thought he did. He was perfect in Blue’s eyes: courageous, kind, friendly, a man of his word and a reliable protector. There was never a moment where he wasn’t willing to help out the other flowers, from taste testing Green’s dishes to searching for Seth’s missing books. Seeing how much he cared for everyone else, Blue truly wished he could care for himself the same way.
“Oh, my sweetheart…” Blue moved a hand to Yellow’s chin, moving his face up to look into his eyes. “I could always make you a new bouquet.”
“But— But…” Yellow stuttered. “That one… That one was special… you spent a lotta time on it, didn’t ya?”
Blue nodded. “And I’m more than willing to do it again.”
Yellow’s eyes sparkled, his face tinted red. “I…”
“You deserve no punishment for a simple mistake that can be easily remedied, Yellow. I forgive you. I always will.”
Hearing those words instantly perked Yellow up. He loosened his hold on Blue’s shoulders, instead kneeling down to wrap his arms around Blue’s waist, holding him close and burying his face into his chest. “I dunno what I did to deserve ya..”
Blue giggled in adoration. “You’ve done so much more than you believe, dear.” He took the cowboy hat off of Yellow’s head, placing a delicate kiss onto his forehead.
After a minute or two of merely enjoying one another’s presence, they finally separated, Yellow standing back up and looking at Blue with the most lovesick look he could possibly give. And, unable to resist his love for the other man, Blue couldn’t help but reciprocate.
“I better get outta here, huh…” Yellow huffed, shyly chuckling. “I’ll see ya ‘round, hon!”
“Farewell, Yellow,” Blue responded, giving him one last peck on the lips before the two went their separate ways.
As he walked away, however, his thoughts continued to focus on Yellow. Even if he kept his composure, he couldn’t handle seeing him in so much self-inflicted pain. There had to be something he could do to prevent that situation from happening once more. He went through idea after idea in his mind, trying to find the best way possible.
Eventually, he stopped in his tracks.
He realized this was going to be a harder task than he could do alone.
He needed help. And he knew exactly who to go to.
Immediately changing directions, he headed straight for the café.
He went right inside, greeted by the sight of Green at the counter, who turned to Blue with their signature smile.
“Green, my dear… might you help me gather everyone here? …Apart from Yellow.”
