Work Text:

Mira is trying to pack to go home the next day from her very romantic honeymoon but all she wants to do is take a nap. Abby is trying to convince Mira about the consequences for being late.

The final evening of Abby and Mira's honeymoon arrived much sooner than either of them expected. Their hotel suite overlooked the ocean, where the fading summer sun painted the water in shades of gold, pink, and orange. Souvenirs from little gift shops were neatly stacked on the coffee table, shopping bags rested beside the sofa, and an open suitcase sat on the bedroom floor waiting to be filled. It was the perfect time to pack for their flight home the following morning.

Unfortunately, Mira had discovered the world's most comfortable hotel bed.

She lay face first across the soft blankets with her arms wrapped around one of the pillows, completely ignoring the empty suitcase only a few feet away.

Abby stood beside it with one of her dresses folded neatly in his hands.

"Mira."

A muffled voice came from the pillow.

"Hm?"

"We should probably pack."

"I'm busy."

He looked around the room.

"Doing what?"

"Resting."

"You've been resting for fifteen minutes."

"I'm preparing."

"For what?"

"My nap."

Abby laughed.

"You can't prepare for a nap."

"I absolutely can."

He walked over to the bed and gently sat beside her, smiling as she refused to even lift her head.

"My beautiful wife."

"Hm?"

"If we don't pack now, we're going to regret it tomorrow."

"I'll regret waking up."

He chuckled.

"You'll regret rushing."

"I'll rush faster."

Abby reached over and brushed a few loose strands of hair away from her face before kissing her forehead.

"You've become very comfortable."

"I married you."

"I noticed."

"So now I can be lazy."

He laughed again.

"That's not exactly how marriage works."

"It is now."

She hugged the pillow tighter.

"I've decided I'm taking a nap."

"What about packing?"

"Future Mira can handle it."

"I don't think future Mira will appreciate that."

"Future Mira complains too much."

Abby smiled helplessly.

"I don't think I'm winning this conversation."

"You are not."

He leaned closer until she finally peeked at him with one sleepy eye.

"You're really not getting up?"

"No."

"I've used logic."

"Yes."

"I've used kindness."

"Mhm."

"I've used kisses."

"They were nice."

"And none of them worked."

"Nope."

Abby looked thoughtfully toward his phone.

"I only have one option left."

Mira became suspicious.

"What option?"

He picked up his phone.

"You wouldn't."

"Oh, I absolutely would."

She immediately sat halfway up.

"Abby."

He grinned.

"I'm calling reinforcements."

"You are not calling..."

He tapped the screen.

Rumi answered almost immediately through a video call.

"Hi Abby."

"Hi."

Rumi smiled warmly.

"How's married life?"

"Wonderful."

Mira groaned dramatically the moment she saw Rumi's face appear on the screen.

"No."

Abby turned the phone toward Mira.

"I require assistance."

Rumi blinked.

"What's wrong?"

"Mira refuses to pack."

Rumi looked directly at her best friend.

"Mira."

"I'm tired."

"You leave tomorrow."

"I know."

"You should pack."

"I'll do it later."

Rumi folded her arms with surprising seriousness.

"Mira."

"No."

"You've had all day."

"I've been on my honeymoon."

"Exactly."

"I've been busy."

"Looking at Abby doesn't count as being busy."

Mira tried not to smile.

"I feel attacked."

"You should."

Abby quietly nodded in agreement.

"See?"

Mira pointed accusingly at him.

"Traitor."

"He called someone who understands responsibility."

Rumi nodded proudly.

"I am a mother now."

"I can tell."

Rumi gave her the exact patient expression she usually reserved for Hana.

"Mira."

"I'm listening."

"If you don't pack tonight, you'll wake up stressed tomorrow."

"I'll survive."

"You'll panic."

"I won't."

"You absolutely will."

"I'll panic quietly."

Rumi sighed in a way that sounded remarkably motherly.

"You said that last time before your shopping trip."

Mira looked away.

"That was different."

"You packed thirty minutes before leaving."

"I made it."

"Barely."

Abby smiled victoriously.

"I've been saying this."

Mira sighed dramatically.

"I liked Rumi better before she became responsible."

"I heard that."

Before Rumi could continue, another familiar face appeared beside her.

Jinu leaned into the camera with a relaxed smile.

"What's going on?"

Rumi answered.

"Mira refuses to pack."

Jinu looked at Mira sympathetically.

"You look tired."

"Thank you."

"I understand."

"See?"

Abby looked betrayed.

"You were supposed to help me."

"I'm helping everyone."

Mira pointed happily.

"I like Jinu."

Jinu smiled.

"I think she's earned a nap."

Abby stared.

"Really?"

"For twenty minutes."

Mira gasped happily.

"I knew you'd understand."

Jinu nodded.

"Then you should pack."

Her smile immediately disappeared.

"Oh."

"I never said don't pack."

"You tricked me."

"I encouraged you."

Abby laughed.

"Thank you."

Mira folded her arms.

"I've been betrayed twice."

Rumi smiled knowingly before gently resting her head against Jinu's shoulder.

"You really should listen."

Jinu wrapped an arm around her waist.

"She's right."

"I know."

Rumi smiled up at him.

"I usually am."

"You remind me every day."

"I don't have to."

He laughed softly before kissing her forehead.

"You certainly don't."

Mira watched with immediate discomfort.

"Oh no."

Abby already knew that look.

"What?"

"They're starting."

On the screen, Rumi smiled shyly after the forehead kiss.

"What?"

"You've been looking at me."

"I always look at you."

"You keep flirting."

"I'm married."

"So am I."

"Exactly."

He gently brushed his thumb across her cheek.

"I still think you're beautiful."

Rumi's cheeks turned pink.

"You've already complimented me today."

"I'm doing it again."

She laughed quietly.

"I noticed."

He leaned over and kissed her gently.

Mira immediately looked away.

"I didn't need to witness this."

Abby couldn't stop laughing.

"I warned you."

"They're in their affectionate mood."

Rumi looked back toward the camera with an innocent smile.

"What?"

"You forgot we were on a call."

"I absolutely did."

Jinu chuckled.

"I definitely forgot."

Mira covered her face.

"I escaped moving in with you two just in time."

Rumi laughed.

"Oh please."

"You kissed him right in front of me."

"I kiss him everywhere."

"I KNOW."

Abby laughed so hard he nearly dropped the phone.

Jinu smiled mischievously before looking at Rumi.

"I think Mira's uncomfortable."

"I think she is too."

"Should we stop?"

Rumi looked thoughtful.

"Nah."

She leaned over and gave Jinu another quick kiss.

Mira made the most dramatic face imaginable.

"I regret answering this call."

Abby gently patted her shoulder.

"You've survived worse."

"I have not."

"You absolutely have."

Jinu smiled kindly toward Mira.

"We're almost done."

"You said almost."

"I did."

He turned back toward Rumi.

"I still don't think I thanked you."

"For what?"

"For being wonderful."

Rumi smiled so brightly that even Mira couldn't help smiling.

"You don't have to thank me."

"I want to."

He kissed her hand.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Mira looked at Abby.

"They're impossible."

"They really are."

"But they're kind of adorable."

"I refuse to admit that."

Abby laughed.

"You already did."

She sighed.

"I miss being annoyed in person."

Rumi heard that and smiled.

"Good."

"I didn't say that."

"You implied it."

Jinu nodded.

"I heard it too."

Mira shook her head.

"I walked right into that."

Rumi pointed toward the open suitcase.

"Now."

Mira groaned.

"You sound like my mom."

"I'll accept that."

"You actually enjoy lecturing people now."

"I have a baby."

"That's fair."

Jinu smiled encouragingly.

"How about this."

"What?"

"Pack for fifteen minutes."

"And then?"

"Then Abby owes you dessert."

Abby nodded immediately.

"Done."

Mira looked at him.

"Really?"

"Absolutely."

She smiled.

"I like that plan."

Rumi laughed.

"So now you'll listen."

"I wasn't convinced before."

Abby folded another shirt.

"You've been convinced by dessert."

"It works."

Jinu chuckled.

"I honestly respect it."

Mira finally climbed off the bed with exaggerated effort.

"I'm sacrificing my nap."

Rumi smiled proudly.

"Look at you."

"I don't need applause."

"You deserve a little."

Abby clapped twice anyway.

Mira laughed despite herself before beginning to neatly fold her clothes.

"There."

"I'm packing."

Rumi smiled.

"I knew you would."

"You used guilt."

"I used wisdom."

"You used mom powers."

"I absolutely did."

Jinu laughed before wrapping both arms around Rumi from behind.

"You were very convincing."

"I know."

"You looked adorable while lecturing."

She smiled shyly.

"You always compliment me."

"I always will."

He kissed the side of her head.

"You deserve it."

Mira quickly focused very hard on folding another sweater.

"I really don't miss living with you two."

Abby grinned.

"No?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because now I'll live with you instead."

She walked over, wrapped both arms around Abby, and hugged him tightly.

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"For marrying me."

He smiled warmly.

"I was planning on it."

"I don't have to watch those two flirt every five minutes anymore."

Rumi laughed through the phone.

"You'll still visit."

"Oh no."

"I absolutely will."

Mira sighed dramatically.

"I've made a terrible mistake."

Abby kissed her forehead.

"I'll protect you."

"You promise?"

"I'll try."

"Against those two?"

He looked at the phone where Jinu had just kissed Rumi's cheek again.

"...Actually, you're on your own."

Everyone burst into laughter.

By the time the call ended, Mira's suitcase was completely packed, the room was tidy, and her earlier determination to nap had disappeared. She leaned comfortably against Abby's shoulder as he wrapped an arm around her waist.

"I still think calling them was unfair."

"It worked."

"It absolutely worked."

She smiled up at her husband before giving him a gentle kiss.

"I suppose this is one advantage of being married."

"What's that?"

"I get to go home with you."

Abby smiled before kissing her once more.

"And I get to spend every day with my favorite person."

Mira rested her head against his shoulder with a contented sigh.

"That sounds a lot better than taking a nap."
