Chapter Text
Sonic, in frustration, kicked a rock. "I swear to you Ames, I like someone! I don't need the blind dates here!"
"Oh, really? You think I would just believe that?!" Amy's shrill voice echoed through the speaker. "You're all alone overseas. It's literally only been a month since college started! Don't lie to me, Sonic."
Amy's persistence was really starting to tick Sonic off, but she continued. He could feel the headache starting to form as she rattled off numerous questions he knew he couldn't reply to, because the person really was fake. However, he was exhausted and needed to find any way to stop the madness.
After a rather foolish decision he made, Sonic had been set up by at least 10 people with Amy's matchmaking "help," and each were worse than the last. He could still remember the scene vividly. Knuckles, Amy and Sonic all sprawled over Amy's couch and not doing anything in particular. In a moment of boredom and complete impulsivity, he had made the stupid choice to loudly announce that he wanted to date someone (again). He still remembered how Amy's eyes had sparkled after hearing his statement, and how he had willingly allowed himself to get dragged into this mess.
He was so, so glad that he had decided to accept an offer overseas. If he had stayed, he would probably be on his millionth blind date by now.
"What's their height? Major? Hair type? Seeing how you can't answer, I conclude that you're lying!"
Sonic gritted his teeth and racked his brain. I'll just lie for now.
"176cm. Cancer research? And their hair is kinda messy."
The silence felt deafening after minutes of yelling. Sonic smirked wider than ever and continued walking home. That would surely make Amy back off, right?
"Don't think I don't know your games, Sonic," she huffed. "Any siblings? Favourite food. Hobbies? Fashion style?"
"Okay, slow down. You said it yourself! It's only the first month!"
"Then send a picture!"
"You think I would pull some weird creep behaviour and snap a picture? Where's the privacy?"
"Okay then. How did you meet?"
Amy's sudden question made Sonic stop to think. What would be a believable story for him? A chance encounter? Groupmates? Roommates?
"We met on Orientation Day. I'm not that close with them right now though," he could imagine Amy pondering the thought through the phone and almost laughed. "They're a real person. I promise."
She sighed, and said, "You better not be lying. I'll be asking for a picture by next week. Bring them over when we visit too."
"Sorry, what was that? Can't hear you! You're cutting out! Bye!" He quickly pressed to hang up and sighed in relief.
The relief, was short lived. His phone vibrated with a notification, then brought a barrage of more messages. He quickly opened his phone again and groaned.

"What's gotten you worked up?" his roommate peaked through the doorway of the living room. Sonic had been running up and down the room for almost 10 minutes straight, trying to brainstorm a solution. Hearing a voice that wasn't his own thoughts momentarily pulled him out of his concentration. He sighed and collapsed onto the couch. "Sillllllverrrr. Help a brother out. Please?" He tossed his head back and stared at the ceiling as he felt the couch sink beside him.
"Did you forget to do the homework again or something?" Silver shook his head in disappointment. "I told you a few days ago that I won't cover for you anymore."
"No, it's not that. It's just..." he hesitated slightly. "You got any single mobians who are 176cm tall and researching cancer?"
"In your dreams, maybe," the silver hedgehog raised an eyebrow. "Can I get context, orr..."
"Okay, fine. I may have lied about having a crush to my friend who's been nagging me to get into another relationship for weeks. Evidently, I already lied about their height and their major, which fucking sucks because I can't lie that it's someone else when I made it hella specific already," Sonic threw his hands into the air in irritation. If he had just kept his mouth shut, this would've been a lot easier.
"Can't you just find a tall guy in that department? Do they have to be 176cm?"
"You think I haven't done that already? My on the student council friend gave me a list and they all average around 5-10cm less than I need."
Silver sighed, as if he was already tired of his roommate's antics. "The friend you told- Did they ask any more questions?"
"Dude, more questions is an understatement." Sonic shoved his already open phone so that the other could read Amy's chat wall. He watched Silver's expression grow more fatigued as his eyes moved down the list.
"You're fucked."
"I know!"
"It's not too late to confess." he suggested. "But judging by how you do things..."
A grin grew on the blue hedgehog's face, an expression of pure mischief. "Fake it 'til you make it." A plan started to form in his mind as his roommate walked back to his room, muttering about why he even bothered trying to help.
- Answer all of Amy's question and create a fake person
- Avoid contact with the "person" at all costs when Amy calls
- Break up with the "person" before she comes to visit.
