Work Text:

Three months into dating each other, their work flow has gotten significantly better. Whenever they are both planted in front of their computers, it’s silent except for the fans running to keep the room cool.

It’s been around a year since Light moved to England. He couldn’t ask for anything more. With L by his side, he can live life this way. He can be a shadow when working while also balancing loving L.

It’s been a long night. Neither of them slept, too busy dealing with a murder case halfway across the world. While it was day there, it was late for them.

The clock reads six in the morning. Light rubs his eyes. The brightness of the screen is causing a slight headache.

“L, do you want coffee?” Light stands up and walks over to where L sat. He puts a gentle hand on his shoulder to alert him of his movements.

“Yes, please. I’ll continue on the case,” L nods and presses a kiss into Light’s hand in thanks.

Light walks into the kitchen, set on getting two cups of coffee. One with a splash of milk and one made of sugar. The overhead light in the kitchen is too bright but tolerable long enough to get their fuel.

After preparing the coffee brewer, Light opens up the patio door for some fresh air. It’s much more humid than normal. It’s going to rain. Great.

Light closes the door to the outside. He locks it in case of strong winds.

The coffee is done. Light fills his cup first, adding the amount of milk he enjoys. He then gets to adding the insane number of sugars L wants. He’s got it memorized by now.

Carrying both cups into the office, he places one on L’s desk. “There you are. Coffee and sugar sludge.”

“Our suspect has made movement.” L points to the live updates on one of the computer screens.

The suspect was caught on video and somehow a tracker was put into his food. That’s all the time they have before they have to do it again.

“And the police?”

“Don’t believe us.”

“Like usual.”

Light walks over to his computer and sits down. He gets on the phone to the police of the county and tries to explain the sighting. Once again he is told to tell the information hotline.

“Every single day, these cops get more and more incompetent.” Light rolls his eyes before placing the phone back into the receiver.

The days passes quickly. Light needs to move around. He stands up and goes to make dinner. A routine he has gotten used to.

L joins him in the kitchen to eat. They lean against the countertop, shoving food into their mouths. They must move quickly if they want to finish this case.

“It’s been raining all day. Brings back memories.” Light comments in between bites of food. L nods silently. He hasn’t talked much today. It’s not like that’s unusual.

After hurriedly washing their dishes, Light joins L in the office again. The wind has picked up and the rain has gotten heavier.

“It’s really coming down.” L speaks, his voice hoarse from not speaking all day.

“Yeah. If it gets any heavier, I might go lock the windows.”

“Go ahead.”

Light walks around their home, locking the windows. The sun's gone down so he also pulls the blinds. People do not need to see inside their home.

The first flash and crack of thunder is loud. Light shakes his head and knows it’s going to be a long night.

The rain is constant now. It patters against the roof and the sound is the only barrier against their self-induced silence.

Another flash and a clap of thunder immediately after.

Then the sound of computers winding down. Light looks over to L as the lights turn off.

“Power’s out.” L blinks against the dark to adjust to the sudden change in light.

“I see that. Or I guess I don’t”

“Now what? This cottage doesn’t have a backup generator to avoid suspicion from the people passing.”

“I guess we get a break. We should probably try to rest.”

L’s hand catches Light’s wrist. A tug and Light is pulled into L’s arms.

“Yes? Do you want something?” Light wraps his own arms around L. They tumble down onto the floor.

Flash.

“Kiss me.”

Boom.

Light presses his lips to L’s. He does it almost every single day now but it still feels the same. It’s like he’s floating. He doesn’t come down until they separate.

L pulls away for a breath only to be tugged into a kiss again.

He’s quite passionate today.

L somehow pulls Light closer. Light smiles and lets L kiss him all over his face and neck.

Hands travel up shirts and into hair.

Marks are left all over bare skin.

Outside the thunderstorm continues to rage on. Inside, the world has been forgotten.

L’s sudden burst of passion comes to a halting stop.

“Tired?” Light runs his hand lovingly over L’s back.

“It hit me rather suddenly. I apologize.”

“Don’t apologize. We’ve been up for a while.”

Light helps them both off the floor and leads them upstairs to their room.

A quick shower for them both before bed and then they can rest. Hopefully the power returns by the next morning.

“Come on, we’ll shower then go to sleep.”

Light helps L into the shower. The last time they shower together, they were chained together. Both of them had been so focused on arguing with the other or hogging the water to understand what it meant.

Now, as the Light and L that argue the same amount but share this sanctuary together, it’s dark and intimate.

Light helps L bathe because he’s clearly going to fall asleep standing up if he’s awake any longer.

“It’s bedtime.”

L nods and lets Light tuck him in and exit the room to continue his routine.

The storm has passed, only leaving gentle rain.

Tomorrow the sun will come out.
