Idiots in Love

Summary:

Eddie has a very special night planned. Buck does too.

Notes:

Written for Buddie Week day 7 with the prompt "Idiots in Love"

Work Text:

Eddie looked around Abuela's backyard, and it seemed like everything was set. He and Buck were supposed to drop Chris off before going out to adult dinner, but Eddie had made plans to stay for a few minutes.

Seeing that Abuela and Pepa were ready with their phones to record, and Chris was in a good position to see what was happening, Eddie slipped up behind Buck and got down on one knee.

"Buck, I have something to ask you," he said, trying hard not to let his insecurity show.

Buck spun around, took one look at him and the ring he was holding, and burst out laughing. Eddie felt his cheeks flame, and dropped his hand. He hadn't thought Buck would laugh at him for proposing! He was such an idiota!

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Buck said quickly, reaching into his own pocket. "It's just — you beat me by one hour, Eds." He pulled out a ring box of his own and flipped it open. "I've got champagne on ice at the restaurant and everything."

Relief washed through Eddie as he realized what was happening, and he laughed giddily with it. Buck reached down a hand and Eddie accepted, letting his boyfriend pull him to his feet.

"Of course I'll marry you," Buck said, once they were standing, only inches apart.

"I haven't actually asked yet," Eddie realized. Buck's laughter had completely derailed him.

Buck laughed again, a bright, happy sound that Eddie wanted to listen to forever. "Well then you'd better ask me quickly, Diaz, or I'll beat you to it."

"Evan, will you marry me?" Eddie asked, pulling the ring out of the box. It was silicone, so Buck could wear it to work.

"Of course," Buck repeated, letting Eddie slide the ring on his finger. "Now, Edmundo, will you marry me?"

"Only if you don't call me Edmundo again," Eddie joked, even as Buck pulled the ring out of the box. It was also silicone, he noted, and they'd both picked the traditional gold color. Buck slid it onto his finger, and Eddie felt a sense of rightness come over him as Buck tossed his arms over Eddie's shoulders, drawing him in for a kiss.

"You're so silly, Daddy, Papa," Chris said, laughing.

"Maybe, but you're mine now, Diazes. No take backs," Buck said firmly.

"No takebacks," Eddie agreed.
