New Orleans, 1932.
After the death of his wife, Madeline, Marshal Sanders has little left but his home, his art, and the ghost he refuses to admit he sees.
Then a letter arrives.
A well off town wants him to paint a mural celebrating its magnificent community garden, a place said to have kept its people fed through the worst years of the Depression. It is everything Marshal should want: a fresh commission, a new home, and enough money to begin again.
So he goes.
But the moment Marshal arrives, things begin to feel wrong.
Waiting for him is Théophile Lemelle, the alderman’s beautiful, impeccably dressed ward—a man with a smile like honey and the unsettling habit of appearing exactly where Marshal doesn’t expect him.
