Bonk!

Summary:

Fiyero was admiring the bead of sweat making its way down her neck as she pulled her braids back into a ponytail. When the soccer ball came hurtling through the air. Striking him straight in the back of the head.

Work Text:

One of the necessary components of a degree from Shiz university was a PE credit. Much to many of the student body's annoyance. It was field game day in their PE class at Shiz. They had made a trip out to the sports fields on But all Fiyero could focus on was how enchanting Elphaba looked. They had been dating for six months at that point. Thing were beginning to get serious between them. Elphaba had changed into her PE uniform. It was far more revealing than anything else she usually wore outside. Made up of a small pair of athletic shorts and a tank top. Both black of course. Elphaba had chosen to run laps. The track circling around the soccer field where Fiyero was currently playing a quick game. It gave him a perfect view of his girlfriend as she ran around the track. The sun catching her beautiful emerald skin in a way that made Fiyero's breath catch. He should've been paying attention. Fiyero knew that, but could anyone blame him? He was dating a goddess who deserved to be worshiped. Fiyero was admiring the bead of sweat making its way down her neck as she pulled her braids back into a ponytail. When the soccer ball came hurtling through the air. Striking him straight in the back of the head.

Lights exploded behind his eyes as Fiyero crashed to the ground.

"Fiyero!" Someone cried

Fiyero could hear footsteps rapidly approaching him. Then hands were flipping him over onto his back. His eyes cracked opened, the sunlight causing pain to ricochet through his skull. Fiyero closed his eyes against the assault. Then someone was rubbing at his chest.

"Give him room" The same voice barked

He sat up with a groan. A woman was crouched beside him. Hand cupping his cheek, the other holding him steady.

"Oh miss please don't touch me like that. My girlfriend Elphaba wouldn't like that. She's a sorcery student you know. Very beautiful, but very powerful." Fiyero babbled

"Sweetheart I am your girlfriend" Elphaba giggled

"Woahhhhh you're really pretty" Fiyero gasped

"Thank you Yero, now let's get you to the nurse you charmer. " Elphaba replied

She stood then held her hand out to help him up. Which Fiyero gladly accepted. The pair made their way off of the field, the crowd that had assembled parting to let them through.

"It was a good thing you brought him in." The nurse said, as Elphaba explained what happened

"How bad is it?" Elphaba asked

"It's a pretty standard concussion" The nurse explained

"He didn't recognize me at first is that normal?" Elphaba asked sheepishly

"It can be" The nurse assured

The nurse walked over to Fiyero. Who was curled up on a cot in the corner of the nurse's office. An ice pack was pressed to the back of his head, where he'd been hit with the soccer ball.

"Okay Fiyero, you've got a concussion. You'll need light rest for at least two days. Then you can go back to class as tolerated" The nurse explained, writing the instructions onto a piece of paper.

"Okay ma'am" Fiyero replied

"Someone will have to stay with him to make sure he doesn't get any worse. I assume that will fall to you Miss Thropp?" The nurse added

"It will, I'll stay with him" Elphaba promised

Fiyero gave out a weak "Yay"

"Let's get you home sweetheart" Elphaba soothed

Elphaba and Fiyero made the walk back to Elphaba and Galinda's dorm. Stopping for a moment so Elphaba could pack a small bag. Elphaba was digging through her closet for a bag while Fiyero was perched on her bed, kicking his feet. Galinda walked into the room a few minutes later.

"Hi" Fiyero waved

"What happened? I heard you got hit with a ball?" Galinda

"A soccer ball, I was a little distracted" Fiyero clarified

"By what?" Galinda coaxed

Fiyero glanced over at Elphaba, who was still looking for her bag. Then back at Galinda.

"Oh!" Galinda chirped

"She's really pretty" Fiyero mumbled

"And she's my girlfriend" Fiyero added in a whisper that wasn't quite as quiet as he had probably intended

Having finally found the bag she was looking for, Elphaba walked over to Galinda and Fiyero.

"I'll be gone tonight and tomorrow. The nurse said someone needs to keep an eye on him for the first two days" Elphaba explained

"What about class?" Galinda asked

Elphaba shrugged "I have my textbooks, he's more important right now. Will you take notes for me in Dillamond's class today?"

"Of course Elphie!" Galinda assured

"Thank you" Elphaba replied

Elphaba finished packing then motioned for Fiyero to follow her. They walked across campus to the boys dorm where Fiyero lived. They made it to Fiyero's private suite. Elphaba set her bag down on Fiyero's desk.

"You should probably shower" Elphaba suggested

"Okay Fae" Fiyero nodded

"I'll sit in the bathroom to make sure you don't fall" Elphaba explained

Fiyero wiggled his eyebrows at her with a grin on his face.

"Get your head out of the gutter Yero" Elphaba shot back, rolling her eyes

"Aww but that's my second favorite place to put my head" Fiyero sighed

"Get in the shower you horn dog" Elphaba groaned, throwing a blue bath towel at him.

"Now who's got their head in the gutter" Fiyero smirked

Elphaba giggled despite herself. Even concussed Fiyero was an absolute charmer. Elphaba was not immune despite her protests. Their status as boyfriend and girlfriend was good evidence of that.

"You're lucky you're cute, Fiyero" Elphaba giggled

Finally they made their way to the bathroom. Elphaba sat herself on the toilet as Fiyero started the shower. He came over and wrapped his arms around her. Pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

"Hi" Fiyero murmured

"Hi love, how are you feeling?" Elphaba asked quietly

"Tired, my head hurts" Fiyero mumbled

"Once we get you into bed I'll make you another ice pack" Elphaba said

"Mmkay" Fiyero mumbled

Fiyero let go of Elphaba then stripped and got into the shower. Fiyero always took his time showering. He put a lot of effort into his appearance. He used all sorts of fancy skin care products and nice soaps. Soon the bathroom filled with steam. Elphaba breathed in the steam, allowing the feeling to calm her. She'd tried not to let it show, but Fiyero had scared her today. Fiyero had always been healthy since she'd known him. Never one to get sick or injured often. So it was a shock to Elphaba's system to have him be laid low like this. She wasn't upset about having to take care of him. She'd gladly do it any day. Hell she'd spent her childhood and young adulthood taking care of Nessarose. So it wasn't out of the ordinary for Elphaba to act as a caretaker. But something about it being Fiyero made her feel off balance in a way.

Elphaba was shaken from her thoughts by the sharp noise of a shower curtain being pulled back. Fiyero stepped out into the steam filled room. Droplets of water clinging to his body. Elphaba watched as Fiyero dried himself off. Wrapping the fluffy towel around his waist. He motioned with his head for her to follow him. Then grimaced as the movement hit his aching head.

Elphaba followed him out into the main part of Fiyero's suite. While Fiyero was dressing himself, Elphaba made her way over to the small kitchenet. The nurse had given them a reusable cloth ice pack. Which Elphaba began filling with ice from Fiyero's freezer. Elphaba made a mental note to refill the ice trays later. When Elphaba returned Fiyero had changed into a set of pajamas. She held the ice pack out.

"Thank you" Fiyero smiled, taking the ice pack from her.

Fiyero pulled the covers back and climbed into bed. He pulled the covers up to his chin. Elphaba kissed him gently once he was settled.

"We'll be skipping history, Yero. I'm going to work on the readings for today's class. Do you want me to read it to you?" Elphaba asked

"Please" Fiyero mumbled

Fiyero looked sweet all tucked into his bed. Elphaba pulled his desk chair up next to the bed. She began reading the chapter out. They were learning about the great drought this week. And the ultimate effect it had on Animal rights. Fiyero eye's quickly began drooping and soon he was fast asleep. Elphaba smiled and smoothed a hand through his hair. He really did look pretty, even when he was asleep. His long lashes resting on the tops of his cheeks. A content smile graced his face. Elphaba stood and stretched. Before she went around the room and turned the lights down. She still needed enough light to see her textbook. But she didn't want to disturb her sleeping prince.

Suddenly there was a light knock on the door. Elphaba quickly walked over and opened the door. Galinda stood in the doorway, carrying Fiyero's satchel.

"Here he left this at the field house, Boq brought it over. He wasn't sure if you two would be here or in our dorm." Galinda explained

"Thank you I appreciate it" Elphaba smiled

"How is he doing?" Galinda asked

"He's fine, he showered and now he's asleep" Elphaba explained

"Good… He really loves you, you know?" Galinda sighed

"I've…I've realized that, today especially" Elphaba replied sheepishly

"It's deeper than that" Galinda added cryptically

"Oh?" Elphaba chirped

"Boq had borrowed Fiyero's history notes the other day. He returned them with the bag and well, you should probably look" Galinda explained, motioning to the bag in Elphaba's hand

"I'll take a look before he wakes" Elphaba assured

"I can bring you two lunch tomorrow if you like?" Galinda offered

"Thank you" Elphaba replied

With that, Galinda made her exit. Elphaba closed the door and glanced over at Fiyero's sleeping form. She sighed then took her spot at his bedside again. Elphaba was conflicted, should she look at his notes? It felt a bit like an invasion of privacy. But Fiyero had lent the notes to Boq. Who had seemingly read whatever salacious notes that were contained within. Elphaba was Fiyero's girlfriend, surly he wouldn't mind if she read it? Her decision made she took a deep breath before opening the notebook.

At first the notes were pretty standard. Bullet points about the things they had been learning. Written in Fiyero's distinctive messy scrawl. But then came the doodles. Fiyero had seemingly gotten distracted at some point and began daydreaming. The margins of his notes were full of little doodles about them. E+F written in the middle of a heart. Variations on what their married names might be. Mr Fiyero Thropp, read one. Mr Fiyero Tigelaar Thropp read another. Mrs Elphaba Tigelaar was another option. Then Mr Fiyero Thropp Tigelaar was the final option. Fiyero had seemingly been thinking about it a lot. Had he actually already been thinking about marriage with her? Elphaba could feel a blush creeping up her face at the thought. Then came the next revelation, a list of baby names. She could feel the tears begin to gather in her eyes as she read the list. At the top was her mother's name Melena. Then Baxiana, his mother's name. Fiyero had tried out a few combos of them as first and middle names. With the addition of the various surname combinations.

Galinda had been right, Fiyero really loved her. More than Elphaba ever thought possible. She knew he loved her of course. Fiyero had made that clear everyday in the six months they had been dating. But this was something different, something deeper. Fiyero saw a future with her. An actual tangible future with her. Elphaba tears were flowing freely. She'd never thought she was the type of girl a boy could see a future with. Elphaba had resigned herself to being Fiyero's college girlfriend, someone he loved of course. But not someone who he would be with forever. Not that he had ever indicated that that was how he saw her. But Elphaba was a practical person. Green girls were not queens, not in Oz at least. Fiyero had been her first everything. But now he might just be her forever. That thought was exciting and wonderful and terrifying all at the same time.

Fiyero began to stir in the bed. Elphaba quickly slid the notebook back into Fiyero's bag. Wiping her eyes just as his were opening. Fiyero smiled brightly at her, once he realized she was still here.

"Hi beautiful" He murmured

"Hi handsome" She replied

Then Elphaba was leaning over him and kissing him. A kiss which Fiyero eagerly returned. She decided then to keep her discoveries to herself. At least for now. Elphaba finally realized their relationship wasn't on borrowed time. They had time, so much time.

"Are you okay? You look like you've been crying" Fiyero asked sleepily

"I'm perfect Yero, don't worry." Elphaba explained with a smile
