Katsuo turns away. He cannot look at his father’s face. Instead, he looks to the distance. To the lanterns in huts and estates both, the blossoms of the night. To the trees and flags that bend like grass in the wind. To the fingers of dawn, stretching out across the sky. His hands are sticky.
