Summary
Annabeth Chase has a theory about love.
She thinks she might be bad at it.
Not in the dramatic, star-crossed way. In the inconvenient way where she gets obsessed with someone, learns everything interesting about them, then wakes up wondering why she cared. It has happened with bridges, motorcycles, Gothic architecture, and four different boys. Annabeth has records.
So when Rachel asks her to fake-date Percy Jackson, Princeton’s star swimmer, Grover’s best friend, and someone Annabeth has decided is loud, distracting, and probably allergic to reading, Annabeth says yes for one reason: research.
Percy isn’t her type. He’s supposed to be the control condition. Six weeks of planned dates should show Annabeth what a crush looks like when there’s nothing real underneath it.
Unfortunately, Percy keeps doing things that aren’t in the plan. Somewhere between Rachel falling for Grover, arguments over blue muffins, and a fake relationship that starts to feel less fake than either of them expected, the experiment stops giving clean results.
Annabeth knows when novelty wears off.
She just doesn’t know what to do when it doesn’t.
