Chapter Text
With a soft thud you fell on the mat, the air leaving your lungs in a cut-off laugh.
Above you, those two dark eyes looked at you in a mix of disappointment and mild amusement.
"I thought you were distracted enough not to notice."
You'd tried to tackle him during training knowing that the only way to even have a chance to win would be to sneak up on him. Calling it a 'miscalculation' would be an understatement.
"You were loud enough 'sneaking around' for me to know what you were up to before you even touched the training mat."
"Rude," You placed your hands on his cheeks, squishing his face and chuckling at the little pout you'd created. "Even if it's true, it's still rude."
"I disagree with the latter." Your tight hold on his face muffled his words, making you chuckle louder.
He huffed and got up to lean his weight on his knees, leaving his hands free to find their way to your waist and start tickling you mercilessly, leaving you breathless once more from laughter.
"Leooooo. Help meee."
"No can do," Leo didn't even glance up from his phone.
Tears fell down your cheeks as you tried to overpower Donnie to make him stop.
"I thought I was your hermana," You turned your head to see him still smiling at his phone and you knew he wouldn't help you if it was his boyfriend texting him.
With a last ditch effort you tried to kick Donnie off but you ended up accidentally kneeing him in the abdomen and he fell to the floor beside you.
"Oh shoot!" You sat up. "Are you okay?"
Donnie groaned.
"Seems you can perfectly defend yourself, Sunny," Leo walked past you two, phone still in hand. "I'm off."
"Don't forget the call tonight!" You called after him, before giving Donnie all your attention again. "Can I do something to relieve the pain?"
"Uranium."
"I'm sorry?"
"You can get me uranium," his hand was now pulled up to his forehead as he dramatically posed with his eyes closed.
"Can I do something I'm actually able to do?"
He sighed and shook his head. "Alas, I will just perish then" one eye peaked up at you and he couldn't suppress his smile.
"How about I get you your favorite juice, some snacks, and compliment all your inventions while you tinker on your next in the lab?"
That was enough for Donnie to jump back up, kiss your forehead and hurry to the bathroom.
----
Around two months ago you first spoke with your family and friends again. Although you'd told them you didn't quite look the same it was still scary to switch on the camera the second time you called. You'd asked April to be there for you and she did seem to be able to convince everyone you weren't using some high tech A.I. filter. Her positive encouragement before and after the call had made it much easier for you too and she helped you through two more calls before you decided to let your family meet the brothers you've been with for almost a year by now.
One you even called your boyfriend, another shocking twist now you had your memories back.
Playing with Donnie's goggles on his desk you looked at him hyper focused on his work while he told you about what he was doing and what he planned on doing next. Honestly, you hadn't been actively listening to him for a while now as you recalled the talk you had in the first week after remembering your life before your mutation. You'd avoided physical contact and sharing a bed until you had built up the courage to talk to him.
----
"Donnie, could we talk for a moment?" You swallowed although your throat was dry and you tried to keep your hands still, but ended up rubbing your thumb against your knuckles hard enough to turn them red.
Seemingly unaware he pulled up his goggles, but didn't yet close Shelldon's shell he was working on. "Sure, go ahead."
I'm not sure if I'm glad he's not giving me all his attention or not.
"It's about…our relationship? You called me your girlfriend not too long ago and-"
"Was that too soon?" He now put away his tools and looked at you with a worried look that made your heart skip a beat in guilt.
"No, no it's just, you're my first boyfriend and I never really thought I'd have one."
He raised a brow. "Why wouldn't you you're great?"
"I know, " You joked, "but that's not really the problem." With a deep, yet shaky breath you continued. "Do you know what asexuality means?"
"Well, in biology it could mean that organisms reproduce by some other method than sex or that they lack sexual organs,"
You couldn't blame him for not knowing about it. You hadn't known about it until you were in your late teens and you simply didn't experience what your friends were. You wanted to open your mouth when he continued.
"But that's probably not what you're referring to. Are you asexual? As in; you lack sexual attraction?"
You simply nodded.
He hummed and now turned his chair to fully face you. "So, what was this problem you mentioned?"
Donnie must have noticed your reddened cheeks by now, your body giving away how nervous you felt. Stupid fears that he'd hate you and you'd lose him made you feel sick and shaky.
"I thought…think? I think that no one's really interested in a relationship when I don't want much more than hugs or kisses. I mean, everyone’s always going on about how important it is and that I'll grow out of it, but I'm not a teen anymore and they then tell me I just have to compromise and I really really like you and I don't want this to end but I understand if it's not what you're looking for in a relationship because I can't compromise when it comes to-" Your voice cracked near the end of your ramble and you stared at your feet, rubbing the tears that threatened to drop down.
Warm hands were placed on your shoulders and you looked up at the purple masked turtle mutant before you.
"Do you still like romantic stuff? Like our date?"
You nodded again. "I loved that."
"Good, because I did too and I don't want to cancel my plans for tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?"
Donnie grinned and bumped his forehead against yours. "I would be more than happy to just laugh, dance, play games, hug and kiss you." His thumbs rubbed gentle circles on the marks on your shoulders and he moved back. "So, will you officially be my girlfriend?"
You laughed and wrapped your arms around his neck, hiding your teary face as you repeatedly said "yes"
----
"Donnie?"
He stopped rambling about the best metal to use for weapons when he realized you called his name. "Yes?"
"Will you still love me if I turn into a cockroach mutant?"
"Depends"
You leaned your head on your hand, trying to look at his expression as he continued working on his project.
"I'd be very disturbed if you would only eat rotten food."
You snorted. "Says the one who eats talking pizza."
He shrugged, but you saw the corners of his mouth turn up.
Behind him you saw the time on his monitor. You had the video call in two hours.
----
You opened Donnie's laptop when both Leo and Mikey had taken their seats next to you. Donnie stood behind you, resting his head on top of yours and behind him Raph was squatting down until he was visible on the screen as well.
Shelldon excitedly flew around you, happy to meet more 'parents', especially yours.
"Did you have to wear that atrocious hoodie?" Donnie glared at his brother.
"It was the only clean one." Leo replied. "Besides, I think it looks sick."
"Yea, sick as i- Ouch!"
Raph placed the hands he smacked the twins with on their shoulders. "Shush, Summer wants to start the call."
----
It was nearly morning when the call ended and everyone went to bed. You curled up against Donnie's chest, lazily wrapping your arm around his waist.
"I think that went well." He whispered in the darkness.
"Definitely, considering how talkative they were you probably impressed them."
"You think so?" Donnie's voice grew a bit louder and slightly higher. Clearly showing he was excited to hear that.
"Now we only have to plan a meeting with your dad and my parents and then they'll have seen everyone before they take the plane to New York."
"I'll ensure Leo and dad are on a mission when they come to visit. I don't want your parents to return home with a trauma of some kind."
You snuzzled your snout in his shoulder, mumbling against his skin. "I'll ask Leo's boyfriend to come visit as well, he'll be too busy being a flustered mess and April can keep Splinter in check."
Donnie softly rubbed your back, scratching an itch you didn't know you had and you chirped.
Both of you froze for a second.
"Sorry, I don't know what that was." You laughed nervously.
"I know some species do that. Like Leo's species when they don't like the water's temperature, are tired or when they get excited when eating."
You wriggled free to look at Donatello. "I'm just happy to be with you." You bumped your nose against his.
Another chirp broke the silence and you giggled, chirping back at Donnie.
"Maybe our species chirp when happy?"
"I would've read about that if that were true," He started, but shut his mouth abruptly. "Buuut we're mutants, so who knows. Seems like something we should research some more." He pressed his lips against yours and moved to other parts of your face, pressing soft kisses while you both chirped.
"I love you." You finally said and felt him smile against your skin when he pressed a final kiss on your eyelid. "I love you too."
