Chapter Text
Time seemed to move so slow yet so fast after that day. Beomgyu was a lively baby, for sure, but luckily not as lively as the twins were when they were first placed with Soobin and Yeonjun.
The first month home was definitely the hardest. It seemed like an eternity for Beomgyu to get used to his crib. The crying was endless some nights, and even though he was in Yeonjun and Soobin’s room it sometimes even woke up the boys.
“Papa?” Kai rubbed his eyes as he entered their door frame, tired expression on his face as Soobin rocked Beomgyu back and forth.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Kai. Beomgyu just won’t let up. Why don’t you go back to your room and I’ll tuck you in once I’m done here.” Soobin spoke softly, just as tired expression on his face.
“Can I see Beomgyu?” He asked, slowly walking closer to the two. Soobin smiled, lowering Beomgyu from his shoulder and facing him to Kai tiredly.
The young boy tapped on Beomgyu’s cheek, before smiling widely and making cute noises at the boy. He squeezed together his cheeks and made cute expressions to cheer him up, the boy’s wails instantly silencing as he stared at his older brother.
When the boy stopped, Beomgyu slightly giggled, reaching out to the boy with a small smile on his face before yawning silently. He tapped his lips together, before falling asleep in Soobin’s arms once again. Soobin smiled widely, rubbing his hand on Kai’s cheek.
“Thank god for your cuteness, Kai. Now, come on, let me tuck you in again.” Soobin whispered as he set Beomgyu back in his crib, before facing the boy with a slight smile.
“Can I sleep with Beomgyu tonight?” He asked, pout on his face. Soobin silently softened.
“How about this? You can sleep with me and daddy tonight, and help with Beomgyu if he wakes up again.” He asked, holding out his hand for the boy to take.
“Okay, papa!” He smiled, grabbing his hand and snuggling in between Yeonjun and Soobin.
When Beomgyu did get adjusted to life with them, they finally were able to start living like the true family they were. The boys helped with as much as they were interested in; meaning they helped with virtually everything except diaper changing. That was the one thing they could never get used to.
“Can I feed him, daddy?” Taehyun asked shyly, cheeks pink and eyes wide.
“Yeah, of course. Here, hold out your arm like this and lift his head up gently with your elbow as you feed him.” Yeonjun smiled, showing Taehyun the position to feed Beomgyu effectively.
Taehyun carefully took him, before supporting his neck and holding the bottle to his lips. He instantly smiled, before lightly bouncing Beomgyu in his arm.
When Beomgyu finished, Taehyun lifted the bottle from his lips, the baby smacking his lips together before looking at Taehyun silently. Taehyun smiled widely, bringing his face to Beomgyu’s and rubbing their noses together softly.
“I love you, Beomgyu.” He whispered, eyes closed as the baby giggled softly.
Yeonjun smiled widely, softly rubbing his hand on Taehyun’s hair.
Their lives with Beomgyu were so much better than they could’ve ever imagined. They all loved him so much, they were determined to show it through whatever means necessary. It was only a matter of time before their official adoption of Beomgyu went through.
They all made their way to the Seoul child welfare center early in the morning; they took the boys out of school for the day because they endlessly asked to go with them so they could ‘kiss their baby brother on the cheek when he became their real brother’.
The fit in the car was a little tight with Beomgyu’s car seat, but the boys were much more distracted playing with Beomgyu on the ride over instead. When they arrived, they all climbed out of the car, before taking Beomgyu out of his car seat as he yawned silently. It was still fairly early in the morning, so it was to be expected with all the crying he engaged in last night.
They all made their way inside, expectant smiles on their faces. The child welfare center had called a judge to look over their case beforehand, and they made a deal with the court in adoption cases like these, so there should’ve been a judge already waiting for them inside. That’s how it went for Taehyun and Kai’s case, and that’s how it would go for Beomgyu’s case.
After meeting with Beomgyu’s social worker for a little while, they made their way into a room they designed specifically for case hearings and adoptions. They plead their case, and the child welfare center showed endless evidence supporting their plea. It surprisingly lasted only an hour, whereas Kai and Taehyun’s lasted almost two. The judge smiled at them widely as he fixed his stack of papers.
“In light of this case today I have concluded that Choi Soobin and Choi Yeonjun are fit to adopt the seven-month-old Choi Beomgyu. Congratulations, sirs.” He stamped their adoption papers, before handing it to them and shaking their hands.
Yeonjun fell into Soobin’s arms with the widest smile on his face, gazing at the paper in front of them. Unbelievable to think that this one little piece of paper could bring them so much euphoria. He lifted his hands over his trembling mouth, tears in his eyes as he leaned on Soobin’s shoulders.
“We’re a family now.” He whispered, tears drying in his eyes as he breathed out.
“Yeah. It’s official.” Soobin whispered back, before looking behind them at the boys.
“1…2…3! Welcome to the family, Beomgyu!” The twins spoke simultaneously, wide smiles on their faces as they gazed at their little brother in his car seat. He giggled loudly as he reached to his older brothers, both of them dancing around in front of him.
The parents smile, before kissing each other on the lips and standing up.
They knew they’d never forget that day. It was ingrained into their very souls, written in the delicate cracks of their parenting, etched into their temporal lobes to remain there for eternity.
