The doctor offered a kind, indulgent smile. “He’s almost settled in a room. I’ll send a nurse to get you when you can see him.” The man went to leave but stopped just outside the door. “Just so you’re not surprised… He’s a little confused, probably from the fever. He’s not making much sense.”
“In what way?” David asked.
“He keeps talking to someone—a woman who’s not actually there.”

”I need my laptop. For the transfer.” He finally says. ”It’s in the top drawer next to the fridge. I don’t think I can walk right now.” The second the man has his back turned, Shane is turning around and fumbling with the key in the patio door and finally, it turns. He’s able to push the door open and he doesn’t look back as he starts running as fast as he can while being injured.

“Hello?” Ilya whispered into the phone. Muffled sounds were coming through the small speakers, but he couldn’t pick anything out. He muted the TV and turned the volume on his phone as high as it would go, then pressed his ear against the speaker. There was a man’s voice echoing, but it wasn’t Shane.

“Tim-”, her tongue felt heavy and it took her an effort to form the words in her head. She had to pause, arranging the words in her head.
Everything seemed oddly stretched out to her, moving in slow-motion and she realized it was the drug, causing her mind to work so much slower than usual.
