It is to be expected that Illya would grow rather fond of the reckless American spy he keeps running into, but he knows better than to get attached. Illya stares at the piece of paper stuck over the front of it, the smiley face drawn underneath the damming Out of Order as if it somehow helps. The little touch display on the top refuses to light up, no matter how many times he pokes it.
Illya stares longingly at the broken machine, and then does what he normally does when he finds a problem he can’t immediately fix.
There’s a freshly painted sign over the café opposite as they jimmy the back door open and slip outside, elegant cursive that’s only just readable. “Solo’s,” Gaby reads aloud. “Well, let’s see what they’ve got.”

Summary
They were polar opposites from different worlds. They worked smoothly together on missions, but there was something else between them. It was always there, pushing and pulling, tearing into them.
Napoleon has no idea what to make of this Sentinel who works without a Guide, has never needed one, who functions like clockwork. A man who could blow up in your face, kill you in a dozen creative ways before breakfast, and who never zones. A man he keeps poking and prodding, provoking at every turn.

Summary
When it boiled down to the bare elements, Napoleon had always lacked the ability to treat serious things with the respect they deserved, and Illya was nothing if not serious.
A serious person and a serious relationship right from their stumbled attempts at friendship through to the nebulous lines surrounding loyalty, lust, love. He had never known where they stood because he refused to quantify his own emotions. How could he begin to comprehend Illya’s when he was so far in denial about the sheer extent of his own? He had wasted years in that same manner; denying, joking, maintaining a front of shallow interest, of want founded solely in carnal gratification.
His time had long since run out and now all he had was an undeserved sacrifice, a cracked veneer, and a paraphrased line from a 17th century poem.
"Had I but world enough, and time."
Damning last words of regret and forgiveness.-
