Summary
Bdubs wouldn't necessarily say he was unhappy with where his life was at. Well, maybe he would if he was close enough to anyone he knew to want to bother, or if some unlucky soul was around after he'd had a few too many. But, c'mon, how crazy would he have to be to abandon his whole planet just to accept a very particular position onboard a roaming spaceship populated by a bunch of eccentric alien hermits?
Just crazy enough, he supposes.

Summary
Grian's life has been one long power crawl. He's been fighting since he was born. Avians are a familial bunch and to be rejected by a flock is to be an outcast in society. Being abused, neglected, hurt - it's nothing new to him. When Grian gets kidnapped, he prepares to die at the notorious hermit craft's hands. A terrifying coven known for the myriad variety of powerful hybrids and creatures, and they had Grian kidnapped. He was prepared to die, for this sad power crawl and journey for a name to be known to end at their clutches.
Instead, they grab his hand, hoist him up, and demand he breathes a higher air. Where Grian's prepared to die, they're plotting a new life for him.
(Grian isn't sure which one is more cruel.)

“You’re not okay,” Grian said, spotting the dark stain on the sleeve. Blood. He grabbed the guy’s arm to steady him. The fabric was soaked, warm and sticky, dripping slowly. Grian’s stomach twisted. “What the hell happened to you?”
The man swayed, knees buckling. “Whoa, easy!” Grian caught him under the arms, he was heavy as a sack of iron, and slung the stranger’s arm over his shoulders. Half-dragging, half-carrying, he hauled him toward the workshop. The man didn’t resist, just leaned in, breathing raggedly.
