    The first time he came across the account, it was of a video of Nellie’s famous wiggles, a compilation of the beautiful border collie in many different locations, standing between someone’s legs and wiggling, stamping, and jumping. Not only had the trick been enough to make Charlie smile, but the little song her owner sang with the wiggles made his heart melt in his chest.

    Before Charlie could look away, Nick caught him staring. His eyes were helpless and imploring and, fuck, Charlie couldn’t ignore him now without seeming like an arsehole.

    “You okay?” he asked tentatively.

    Nick hesitated, then sat down on the edge of the rain-slicked pavement with an exhausted sigh. “Not really.”

    The rugby lot on the first floor—otherwise known as the Frat Floor—are notorious for partying, getting piss drunk, and keeping the rest of the student building up at four in the morning. So when Charlie finds Nick Nelson throwing up one night, he assumes the rugby lad brought it on himself.

    He soon realises two things. Firstly, how wrong he is. And secondly, that Nick has no one to take care of him. Unless Charlie takes matters into his own hands.

    OR

    Nick winds up with a bad case of freshers’ flu and no one to help him (because his friends are useless). Charlie steps in to make sure he’s looked after. Feelings ensue.

    He pricks his finger on a particularly thorny rose, but his fingers are so calloused after years of use that he barely even notices the pain.

    A tall man with dark blonde hair and a smart looking black suit walks in. He’s handsome in a rugged, sportsy kind of way, and Charlie is instantly smitten, because how could he not be?

    The man’s smile is as warm as his brown eyes, and the hint of red in his scruffy beard reminds Charlie of the first sparks of a fire.

    Charlie’s floral shears lay limply in his hand, all but forgotten as his whole world falls into two distinct phases. All that came before this moment, and everything that will come after.
