Does his dad lay there of a night as they drift off, talking about their days when he suddenly lets slip “oh, I think our son has something wrong with him.”
And even if he did say it out loud, would she even care to listen?
Or would she use it against him? Would she call him crazy and evil? Would it be another reason to wrap that belt around her fist and bring it down against the backs of his legs?
A gut wrenching thought gnaws at Marc’s gut.

He had finally worked up enough courage to wear a skirt out today, and he was starting to regret his decision.
"You look fine Steven, just relax." Marc says, trying to sooth him. "It’s just a quick stop at the pet store for more fish flakes. Nobody is going to bother you."
"Yeah, and if they do, I’ll take care of them." Jake promises, making a big show to crack his knuckles in his reflection.

The second the advertisement pops up on his screen, Steven can’t stop looking at it, finger moving the mouse to click on it almost before his brain can register what is happening.
He sits back in his chair and lets out a puff of air. He did it. He really really did it. There's no going back now. In a couple days he will finally be the proud owner of a new skirt.
Oh gods.
Where is he going to put it? He can’t have either of the others stumbling upon it! What would they think of him? What if they thought he was weird, or didn’t want the body wearing something so feminine? His eyes are darting around the flat, somewhat frantically looking for somewhere inconspicuous enough for him to be able to hide it once it arrives.

Summary
It’s half a plea, half a warning. He really truly doesn’t like arguing with Steven if they can both help it. He loves him dearly, and fighting only creates a tension that feels painful to exist within, like tearing himself in half. Since their big showdown in Cairo, they’d had more of an ease at working together. Existing in tandem, it’d felt like second nature. Like a breath of extra air in his lungs now that he could live their lives in parallel to one another rather than it being a big tangled mess where two lives were unwillingly entertaining with one another. A knot that’d been yanked too tight.
But that didn’t mean it came with its difficulties. They were two people with different hobbies and experiences and preferences.
Steven would get airy whenever Marc would come home with a McDonalds bag, all meat no green. Marc found it hard to live in such a cluttered space like their loft in London since he was more of a minimalist himself, he didn’t care for all the little knick-knacks that filled their home.
Small sacrifices were fine, but when it was an everyday occurrence, it had a tendency to chip away at your reserve.
And right now, Steven was straight up hacking away with an ax.

Summary
Marc ducks his head down. He doesn’t look back up before he’s doing a slow turn. The two Gus’ are bobbing up around in the tank, all fins accounted for, Marc takes a pinch of the flakes on the side and sprinkles them into the water. He’s never been a huge lover of goldfish but he will admit that watching their fat little mouths open and close around soggy flakes was kind of entertaining.
He moves around the tank and slowly makes his way to the mirror beside the bed. He doesn’t sit down, afraid that if he did he might fold in on himself and not find the strength to undo himself to face the other man in the reflection waiting patiently for him.
He’s working his hands into knots, wringing his fingers together when Marc looks at him again.
“I told you about mom,” he says, the words seem to just materialize out of nowhere, existing there in the air. He hadn’t a speech of any sorts prepared, but his mind seemed to have no issue in churning out the words without much thought behind them. “I told you about mom and Randal and… and the whole us thing, back on the boat. Even when I’m not so great at explaining it all.”
