Theo can See it, suddenly, Harry with pomegranate-stained lips and sharp teeth dripping red like blood, red jewels on his tongue, in a crystalline palace with a lavish banquet set, in fields of dewless asphodel.
“And you become that which you eat, you know. Oh, not completely, of course, and I’m no longer bound to Mab. So I share few of the physical weaknesses of the Sidhe. Iron may not bind me, though it does itch most annoyingly, and, I expect, will burn after some time in contact.”
“Good, because unless you deign to stop these rumors, half of Slytherin house will be spangled with cold iron by Yule.”

Summary
Here's what happened. James and Lily had died to protect their son. They had done it all for Harry, did everything they could to ensure his safety and happiness. All for Albus to dump him at Petunia's where he was neglected and abused.
Lily had seen it, sort of. The afterlife was weird like that. You could watch your living loved ones but not directly. It wasn't like turning on the telly and watching their lives. It was more of a feeling with flashes of memories. She could feel her son's pain, his confusion, his fear, his hopelessness. Every once in a while she could see him too, locked up in his little cupboard, not bothering to cry because he knew that tears would only bring more pain. She could feel his hunger, his desperation. It was eating her alive... Well... Not alive. That was the problem.
The afterlife was supposed to bring them peace, it was supposed to be their final resting place, but Lily couldn't rest, not when Harry was wasting away in some dark hole and nobody was doing anything to fix it.
She was his mother, and she was going to fix it. And if that ment dragging her husband and their new friend back through the veil to the land of the living, then so be it.

After being resurrected, Lord Voldemort completes a magically-binding blood-adoption ritual on Harry Potter as a way to circumvent the protections Lily placed over the boy.

Only, Harry is not just connected to him any more. They are not just blood-linked and inheritance linked. They are soul linked.
Harry's very presence sooths Voldemort's paranoia and mends his insanity. Tom is feeling emotions again. Harry's and his own.

This new equilibrium places both Tom and Harry in incredible danger.
If Albus Dumbledore and his blasted Order of the Phoenix realize that Harry is keeping Tom both immortal and sane, he will be killed.

“Harry!” He looked back to see his mentor’s face, pale underneath the streaks of blood and ash that covered it. His golden eyes were wide as they locked on Harry, seeming almost nervous.
“There’s no time!” Draco called out, grabbing his hand and pulling Harry towards the massive turner that would take them (hopefully) back twenty years into the past.
“Forgive us!” Remus called, raising his voice now over the building hum of the time turner, carrying a note of desperation. “He always meant to tell you. But then he was gone and it didn’t seem my place.”
“What–” Harry began, but then the power of the turner coursed through him, through his arm where Draco held him and he felt himself get dragged backwards into the vortex. The last thing he saw before his world went dark was the pleading in Remus’ eyes.
“Forgive us.”
Or: Harry and Draco travel back in time to defeat Voldemort and find that nearly everything they knew about the past (and present) is built on lies.
