"'Uh…' Akira starts. 'These vines won’t let me help you.'
'That’s fine,' Akechi says, seemingly unperturbed. 'I can get out of this myself, I assure you.'
So Akira watches. He watches for several moments as Akechi tries to find a way out of the vines. He tugs, wriggles and pulls—no dice. The vines are still perfectly wrapped around him like a snake coiling its prey. It almost seems that the more he struggles, the worse they tighten.
Akira doesn’t know how to broach the topic, so he tries eloquently, 'Do you think you’re, uh, stuck stuck?'
'Use that glorious intellect of yours, Joker,' Akechi hisses. 'What do you think it looks like?'
After mishandling the research flora in Maruki's Palace, Akechi finds himself trapped in an array of vines. The only way to get out is with Akira's aide, but being trapped drudges up feelings Akechi never wanted to bring to the surface...

“I’m sure you all missed me, I missed you too!” He said cheerfully, tilting his head to the side with a bashful look. “I know everyone’s been so worried about me, but I’m fine!”
He twirled a piece of hair around one of his gloved fingers and glanced away from the camera. He looked from the blinking red “live” light to the raven who stood off to the side.
“I've been very busy recently…and I’ve met someone,” He explained to the camera, a small flush lighting up his cheeks. “He showed me my true purpose, and I want to share that with all of you as well!”

Summary
Several months after reverting the world to its original reality, Akira finds himself miserable back in his hometown. His parents are never around, his classmates want nothing to do with him, and confiding in his friends back in Tokyo requires a level of vulnerability he’s not sure he could ever achieve. Convinced that moving back to Tokyo would solve all of his problems, he resigned himself to waiting out the remaining time until graduation. Then a former detective walks into his after-school job.

He barely noticed, lashes fluttering shut with the determination to stay that way. He tilted sideways, head far too heavy to hold up a second longer. His descent slowed by pillows until he was flat against the bed, the world fell away.

Akechi lives thanks to Loki and Robin Hood, sacrificing themselves for him. Their sacrifice leaves permanent damage to his body, and Akechi must learn how to live again under the weight of everything he’s done and everything that’s been done to him.
Luckily (or unluckily, depending on who you ask), he has the leader of the Phantom Thieves (and the Phantom Thieves themselves) there as his support network into this new world, post-Royal canon.
