Geralt’s first thought–Oh fuck, not again–is followed closely by his second–Please, Jaskier, for once do as you’re fucking told and stay with Roach.
But both thoughts are as useless as his attempts to turn around and go backwards in the portal he accidentally triggered when he’d run his fingertips along the knife carved and painted into the tree not far from their campsite. After an indeterminable time that is likely only a moment but feels like days–fuck he hates portals–he finds himself standing on the edge of a sandy beach, a tangle of trees at his back, a sparkling sea, seemingly endless, stretching before him.
He’s been everywhere on the Continent. This is…somewhere else.

Jaskier cast a wide-eyed look at Geralt before straightening. “Yenn?” Jaskier pitched his voice out, steady and strong even though Geralt could see the faintest tremble in his lips. “Now might be a good time to come back here.”
Whatever Yenn replied was lost as the wind suddenly picked up, moving from quiet to a susurrus in the treetops to a full on bluster in the span of a handful of heartbeats. It tore at Geralt’s armour, whipping leaves and small branches into his face. He thought he could hear Ciri scream, though it might also have been a ringing in his ears.
The destiny family is spending a day searching for ingredients in a forest near Brokilon, and it’s just another day until Jaskier spills blood on a carved sword. But it’s definitely not his fault they suddenly find themselves in the company of a stranger decidedly not from their world — how was he supposed to know it was a magical carving?!
