Traditional medicine is not able to provide a cure, so Hermione does what she does best; study. After much research, they uncover a way to counter the curse for one night only, but it requires a rather challenging ritual involving blood, bones, and Lucius Malfoy.

The tang of iron and earth sets his stomach ablaze with hunger even as his mind recoils. He's not hunting for the pleasure of the beast. He will not feed it. He doesn’t swallow, instead letting the liquids dribble out of his mouth. Then he begins the arduous task of dragging the carcass over to the pentagram on the ground.
