Mike visibly wars with himself for a second, gears turning on what to say, before giving a short huff and visibly giving up.
“It’s just… the milk,” he says sheepishly. “It’s not usually as bad as this,” he sighs. He gestures to his chest, where two damp spots are darkening the light fabric of his t-shirt. Will feels his mouth drop open.or;

The day of their graduation, Will was smiling for photos with Hopper and his mum, Joyce when the phone rung. Will laughed as the tarp behind Jonathan fell again while taking photos while his mum picked up the phone. She frowned and Will could faintly hear Karen Wheeler’s frantic voice. Joyce lowered the phone to her shoulder and mouthed the words, “Mike has been missing since last night.”
The old cold feeling washed over Will again. No Mike probably stayed at Lucas’ house or something, right?
And if not, then where the hell did Mike Wheeler go?

Will doesn't know how he’s ended up in this situation, truly. He’s toying with the possibility that he actually tripped over and died when he got up to answer the door and this is some pre-death hallucination, because there’s no way that he’s really in a situation where Mike Wheeler is sitting on his bed and asking Will to kiss him.
“You- you want me to what?” Will chokes out once he’s stopped coughing – because Mike had chosen to ask that particular question when Will was taking a sip of water, and he almost fucking drowned on it.
“Kiss me,” Mike repeats, confirming that Will wasn’t hallucinating the first time. “For practice.”or;

"Do you ever want-" Mike pauses, searching briefly for the words as Will holds his hand, playing with his fingers. "Do you ever think about like, going further?"
Will bites his lip, the immediate answer being of course, Yes.
"Yes."
"Like, further than second or third base, I mean."
Will feels oddly calm, peering up into Mike's eyes. "Yes."
"Oh," Mike says faintly, a soft smile coming into his face, and not for the first time Will desperately wishes for a peek inside the dark haired boy's mind. Then, "Would you ever want to go further.. with me?"
Or, Mike and Will take baby steps to a big step in their relationship ft. experimentation with gender non-conformity, the freedom and trust that comes with love, first times, technically improper use of a pillow fort but that could easily be argued

He can't open his eyes, he can't because if he has to look at Mike as he says yes he's going to - he might punch him. He might actually punch him. Why did he agree to this? Why did Mike have to come here and be beautiful and loving and make him think just for a moment all over again.

Mike finally starts getting his life together again just before they're all ready to leave after getting all of his feelings out into his writing and he goes to will for help in finishing it. Together they paint and write a new ending for the story whilst rediscovering themselves along the way.
