He kicked himself, mind going into overdrive as he saw Sokka’s brow furrow. He’d thought it had been too quiet for him to hear, but maybe he was wrong and Sokka had heard and now knew, and was confused because he was trying to figure out how to let him down gently, and Zuko had just ruined everything-
“I have absolutely no clue what you just said,” Sokka announced after a moment, dropping his sword to his side. “I couldn’t hear you over all the wheezing.”

Summary
Zuko is going to unscrew the bolts inside the cooler and they’ll make their easy escape. Then the guard fractures his rib, and suddenly his fire-breathing isn’t possible anymore. He has to muscle through though for Sokka’s plan, hypothermia be damned.
He looked around, feeling panic set in. Sokka was relying on him to get this done, and they only had one shot, and his breathing hardly generated any heat.
Zuko didn’t know how much time had passed, but he only had a little over half the screws out when Sokka opened the door. The cold was tucked into every pocket of Zuko’s being. It would have been far easier if his hands weren’t shaking so damn much, and it took his left hand holding his right hand steady to get a good grip on the bolts. The small breeze of air that blew in when the door opened felt like a blessing on Zuko’s skin.
“I can take you back to your cell if you’ve learned your lesson,” Sokka said in a deepened voice, standing with his arms crossed. Zuko tried his best to hide the shivers that racked his body.
“I don’t think I have,” he responded. -
