There stood before him was himself, somehow older, with a scar on his cheek. Where he had somehow expected, instinctively, hostility from a man that was a mirror image of his likeness, there was only knitted brows in concern.

He had never heard his name from his own lips.
“How did you get here?” The man now crouched, cradling his face, turning it from side to side. “How did you get back on Earth?”

“So, guys, is this really it? That’s all you’re gonna be doing for your wedding?” Lance asks, a hand holding his glass of wine and the other supporting his head on the table.
“Yeah, I mean why not, right?” Shiro answers. He shrugs his shoulders nonchalantly. The tips of his ears have turned pink, and Keith knows that Shiro’s going to be a little out of it from here on out.
“You guys are all married so we thought ‘let’s get it done too’ and… and we’re too busy anyway to plan and get a real wedding done. There are missions popping up all over the place. Plus, it’s gonna cost us too,” Keith replies. In truth, he would have loved a huge wedding but it just wasn’t feasible, especially right now. “We have each other,” Keith murmurs, his hand finding Shiro’s to intertwine their fingers together. “That’s all we really need.”

Even after spending so much time in them, they were still beautiful and nostalgic—like another home to both of them. They had spent several nights just laying with their backs in the sand, staring up at the night sky, pointing out constellations and wondering what familiar stars they might have passed could be. It was one of those nights, nearly their last night, under the blanket of bright stars that Keith finally asked.

Shiro’s childhood friend, Allura, is marrying his old fraternity brother, Lance. He’s beyond thrilled to attend their big day, especially with his long-time partially-secret crush and best friend, Keith. Between Allura’s scheming and a few honest misunderstandings, everyone at the wedding assumes Shiro and Keith are a couple. Shiro can hold it together for one night… can’t he?
“I really screwed up,” Keith said, voice shaking.
Shiro huffed out a nervous chuckle. “Funny, I was about to say the same thing.”
“Right…” Keith trailed off, letting his eyes sink down to the ground.
Something shifted in the air between them and Shiro got the unfortunate sinking sensation that if he failed to act right at that moment, the opportunity would pass him by and he’d regret it forever. Alcohol still thrummed in his veins, dulling his normally sharp mind.
The music was muted, but he could still hear it softly wafting in through the cracked windows and closed doors. An idea struck him as his brain frantically tried to think of something anything to say.
