Summary
After six months in Azkaban, six months living without magic, and six months probation, Draco Malfoy reveled in the quiet. For five years working in a small bookshop in the Scottish isles gave him purpose and the silence he craved. Until the bell above the door chimed, and Hermione Granger started to make noise.
And maybe he liked the sounds she made.

Summary
He knows she sees it then, by the way her eyes flare, fixing on the glint of silver.
Pansy had tsked when she’d first seen it, a pejorative “Good lord, Draco” coupled with a bemused, “Merlin, has your mother seen this?” (No, she hasn’t—because the Manor allows for fucking glamours.)
Granger doesn’t tsk or chastise. She stares for a moment then laughs, soft and disbelieving. “Sorry, was that…is your tongue pierced?”
He hums an affirmative, then clicks the barbell against the back of his teeth. “It is indeed.”

Summary
The first thing she notices is not the cut of his robes, or the way he has his hair styled, cropped close on the sides but long on the top. It’s not his expensive dragon leather shoes that shine nearly iridescent in the light, or the sharp caress of his grey eyes as they flit over her face with the speed and reflexes of a seasoned Seeker.
It's the ink that peeks out above the crisp collar of his shirt. It’s a flash of blue against his pale skin, the only drop of color on his body.
That she can see.
It takes Hermione several minutes to focus well enough to drag her eyes away, lest she get caught with her jaw on the sticky floor of the pub they’re both standing in. Something tells her there's more color hidden behind the flat black of his suit and robes. There has to be, considering the intricate design that creeps up his neck like tendrils of blue smoke.

“It’ll be a phrase you’d say in bed,” Ginny supplied, grinning. “It has to be something provocative.”
Hermione clicked her tongue. “Be sensible. It will be on my body forever.”
“You can choose the phrase,” Ginny said magnanimously, then tilted her head, considering her. “And where. On your bum might be nice, for instance.”
“I’m not getting my bum tattooed,” Hermione deadpanned, then sighed. “Fine. I’ll think of something.”
“Think fast. We’ll do it first thing this weekend.” Ginny pushed to her feet, plucking up their empty glasses and walking them to the sink.

Summary
“Right.” She met his eyes. “Would you like to tell me what happened?”
He shifted on the table, the paper crinkling below him. “I was hit in the line of duty,” he said. While true, it didn’t give her anything she didn’t already know. She blinked at him, likely thinking the exact same thing. He shifted again.
“The spell hit me…somewhere vital.” He blushed at having described it as such – it wasn’t his heart or his lungs or brain, for Salazar’s sake – but she was nodding easily so he barreled on. “And the effect is quite uncomfortable.”Her lips pressed together at that but her flash of amusement vanished as she gave a nod. “I’m sure it is."
