Summary
Richie and Eddie were known to bicker, tease each other, and make jokes at each other’s expense. They were even known to throw in the occasional swear every now and then. Sometimes, they would even insult each other so viciously that feelings should’ve gotten hurt. Despite all of this everyone knew, especially Richie and Eddie, that the two were never serious and it was all in good fun.
However the way they were speaking to each other now was so full of venom and so absent of any facetiousness, that there was no way either of them could be joking. They were serious this time and they meant every word.
Or
Richie and Eddie are hot, tired, and thirsty at marching band practice. They fight and stuff happens.

Once Bill finished smearing his actual slide grease on his tuning slide he pressed a kiss to Stan’s cheek. Stan smiled fondly and wrapped an arm around Bill’s shoulders.
Ben and Beverley intertwined their fingers together and he kissed her on the forehead.
This is when Richie should’ve made a fake gagging sound and joked for them to “get a room”, but he didn’t. He had been awfully quiet since the water break started. Usually he would talk so much during breaks that he would be the last to finish his water. Today he was the first to finish drinking. Something was wrong.

He couldn’t believe he would be assigned to touch bags of trash that were full of dripping soda cans, greasy paper plates, sticky candy wrappers, and crumpled up napkins. Summary
It was Saturday morning, one of the only Saturday mornings that there wasn’t a band competition. Eddie had gotten a phone call from Maggie Tozier around eleven. She told him that Richie was dehydrated and wasn’t feeling well. Wentworth was on a business trip and Maggie was at work covering a coworker’s shift. Neither of them had any way to go home to check on their son. She called their house four times but Richie never answered. She tried calling Stan next but the Uris family didn’t seem to be home. So, she called Eddie to ask if he could go check on him.
That’s why Eddie was now riding his bike to Richie’s house with a travel cooler containing water, Gatorade, juice, fruit, and other snacks. He also had a separate bag with some medicine and epsom salts.
OR
Richie is dehydrated and Eddie goes to his house to take care of him.
