Summary
"You put up quite the fight, Dottore. I'm impressed." Kaeya hummed, laughing and twirling his sword before letting it vanish. He wasn't at all fazed the same way Dottore was.
The doctor's eyes shone with betrayal that cut harder than the sharpest sword, buried itself deeper than the strongest bullet. He looked on the verge of crying, such a change compared to his usual stance. Tears pooled in the corners of his eyes and it hurt to breathe. Whether that was because of his broken ribs or because he was hurting emotionally, he wasn't sure.
He was vaguely aware of another Knight cuffing him, manipulating his broken arm to a highly uncomfortable angle. He couldn't find it in him to care. "I trusted you," Dottore's voice sounded broken, cracking with emotion in a way its done so many times before.

Dottore narrowed his eyes at her, filling up the needle with the antivenom. “Do you have a problem, ma cherie?” He said flatly, annoyance in his crimson eyes.
Signora rolled hers in return. “I have no problem, I’m merely wondering why you must use your creations over ones that were made by someone who cared about human life.”
“If you were human, you’d be dead long before you made it here so shut the fuck up. Its not going to kill you, I wouldn’t be using it if it would.”
Signora gritted her teeth and shut up then. Dottore seemed pleased with himself as he reached a hand to grab her chin and tilt her head a little more. His touch was surprisingly gentle, and she found herself enjoying the way his large hand practically engulfed her chin.

The moonlight shone through her unnecessarily large windows and highlighted the figure of a certain doctor, crumpled on the ground. Dottore’s head was resting against the edge of Signora’s bed, his mask still on but tilted to the side enough to reveal his full mouth. Childe didn’t need the moonlight to see the tears staining Dottore’s cheeks.
He didn’t know what compelled him to open the door further and slip inside the room. He didn’t know why he chose to sit beside Dottore, carefully, as if he was trying to avoid getting his head chopped off. But Childe did it anyway, listening to whatever made him do this.

Without even bothering to knock, Ajax quietly opened Pulcinella’s door. He knew they would still be awake, they often sat in their office until the latest hours of the night doing work. And he was right, as Pulcinella looked up at him and immediately frowned the lightest bit upon recognizing him.
They set down the papers in their hands and looked at him silently for a moment. Ajax shut the door behind him, making his way to the armchair at the edge of Pulcinella’s desk, where he made himself at home the past couple of days. Something about being in the company of the 5th Harbinger when he wasn’t out on the training field reassured the boy.
It was like an anchor to this reality, something keeping Ajax from losing it.
“What are you doing?” Pulcinella asked, their gaze trailing Ajax’s movements. They were never great about expressing how they felt, but Ajax didn’t mind.

“You can always turn around and leave,” Pulcinella reminded, keeping a watchful eye on Ajax. “Call my name and I’ll be there to pick you up quicker than you can pull your sword out, my boy.”
Ajax couldn’t resist a little grin, unreasonably happy. He always felt a little better when Pulcinella was there, a guard between him and the harsh reality of the world around him. The dull ache of an injury a certain someone gave Ajax the night before was a little distracting to the illusion, but he tried not to think too much about that.
“I’ll be fine!” Ajax chirped, rocking on his heels. “It's just my dad anyways, he can’t be mad at me for too long! I’ll show him how much I’ve improved with my sword and he’ll be proud of me again!”
Pulcinella winced, and Ajax’s curious gaze whipped up to meet theirs. They said nothing, merely nodding along with his words.

“Signora’s death was something none of us expected.” If there was a tremble in Pierro’s voice as he spoke for his archon, no one pointed it out. “It came suddenly and messily, but we will not let it leave so quickly.”
Tartaglia stole a quick glance to Pierro’s balcony only to notice how his gaze was on the Tsaritsa personally instead of the rest of them. His eye seemed to share a deep, painful knowledge with her, sadness pooling in his blue iris as if rainwater to a pond. It didn’t take much to know how painful this had to be for the two of them personally – everyone knew of the night Pierro stumbled through the Tsaritsa’s doors with a dying Signora and begged for the Archon to save her.
That was the night of the Fatui’s beginning, after all. Pierro and Signora had ruled together since then, recruiting the rest of them one by one until it branched outwards and the numbers went from 2 to 11.
