Summary
That look...
The look in this young man's eyes-on his face-caused an uncontrollable, excruciating flash of imagery to flood his mind. Memories that belonged to him, but weren't his. This pain in his head grew into a screeching migraine that caused dark lashes to flutter shut against the indescribable agony of two souls residing inside of one mind as they threatened to tear it apart. Of being entirely himself, yet someone else at the very same time. Momentarily pressing the gun he'd taken from his subordinate to his temple, Dazai squeezed his visible eye shut and grinned through the throbbing anguish in his head. Then...he lent himself over to a faint, manic bubble of laughter.
Shooting himself wouldn't work to relieve this pain...
He knew-
...because he'd already tried...

Summary
It was the least that he could do for his beloved Odasaku.
...not that he didn't want to do more...
Not that he didn't want to admit to absolutely everything he'd done.
And..? What if he did just that? What if he told Odasaku the truth? The truth about what he'd done to Akutagawa. The truth about this altered reality. Maybe... Maybe, if Dazai just told the truth-for once in his miserable life-and explained everything to Odasaku, then perhaps the man might actually understand. And if he were able to explain, and if Odasaku were able to fully understand, then maybe...
...maybe-in this timeline-they could be friends..?
Dazai so desperately wanted to be this man's friend.

Dazai has managed to create a world in which absolutely nothing is right.

Summary
Atsushi hadn't actually wanted to kill anyone.
...he never had...
And Atsushi absolutely despised himself for the fact that he knew exactly what it felt like-to take a human life.
Eighteen, and on the run for his life, Atsushi once again lost control of himself and became the fearsome weretiger. And that was the same exact moment in which the course of his whole entire life had changed forever. Because-instead of waking to the horrifying sight of carnage and death he'd grown accustomed to in the aftermath of losing control-Atsushi opened his eyes to the image of a man dressed in black, warmly smiling down at him.
The man introduced himself as Dazai.
Dazai Osamu.
And he told Atsushi that he didn't have to be afraid anymore.

Dazai has managed to create a world in which absolutely nothing is right.

Summary
Dazai was a cold, cruel man...
...and he was being cruel, now, by engaging in a power trip by forcibly smothering and subduing Chuuya's own ability-bringing him to his knees with a single, disarming touch...
It was such a sweet violation of his body. And it was also a form of forced submission, and Dazai was making damn sure that he knew that. Because no matter how strong Chuuya was-with or without his ability-Dazai would always be the one with all of the power.
-Or-
Dazai has managed to create a world in which absolutely nothing is right.

Summary
He'd failed Dazai, because he'd been a coward-just as the man said. And the image in his mind of that look he'd received shamed Atsushi so completely that the mere thought of ever disappointing Dazai again became excruciatingly unbearable to him.
After that fateful day, Atsushi swore to himself that he'd never fail Dazai again. With the endless opportunities he was afforded to prove himself after having made this unforgivable mistake, Atsushi devoted his every waking moment to doing everything within his power to aligning himself entirely with this philosophy. This principle that Dazai had presented to him. The idea the man had placed in his mind, that he could override and rid himself of his cowardice and fear with fear. So, from that moment on, Atsushi became what he feared most.
Pain.
Suffering.
...death...
And-just as he'd promised-Atsushi never again turned his back on Dazai, or anything that Dazai demanded of him. Because no one else cared about Atsushi the way that Dazai did.
Because Dazai Osamu was a good man-and had saved Atsushi from himself.
-Or-
Dazai has managed to create a world in which absolutely nothing is right.

Summary
Knowing Dazai, that damned bastard had probably planned every single detail of this out a long time ago. Chuuya supposed that Dazai getting him out of the way was just the final part of Dazai's plan...
'...all according to plan, dear...'-the haunting, spectral sound of his featherlight voice whispered in the shell of Chuuya's ear, causing his full-bodied lips to slightly part with the faint, breathless gasp that had escaped him.
Chuuya squeezed his eyes shut.
...right...
He balled up his gloved hand into a tight fist as he slammed it to the floor..
Knowing that was the same exact thing as letting it happen-he harshly reminded himself. He was responsible for this. He was responsible for Dazai's death-for the loss of his other half. Chuuya knew this. Yet the weight of his guilt-ridden conscience was just too much to bear. The burden of it was too heavy to carry-
...on his own...
He needed someone to blame, other than himself.
-Or-
Dazai has managed to create a world in which absolutely nothing is right.
