Jecka was losing her damned mind.
She'd already had her 'sexuality crisis', more or less. She figured out her shit, put it to bed, and that should've been the end of it. Of course, it wasn't. She wasn't really questioning anything, no, that would've been much easier. So much more simple to deal with and understand and test and poke around. That would have been fine! That would have been normal, and reasonable, and understandable.
Naturally, Jecka just had to develop a 'Nicole Crisis'.
Which, on paper, was a complete nightmare and disaster of an idea. She could do better! So much better, and it sure sucked that she didn't want to do better than the most gorgeous, vicious, horrifying, confident, and addictive monster she'd ever met or would meet. And she knew, she absolutely knew that this was going to crash and burn instantly with zero hope of either of them living through the night.
If only feelings were rational.

Nicole hasn't read that book.
She's not a bitch who reads. She's not a bitch who does really much of anything at all. Why put in the effort if you're just going to get yanked behind the hardware store and put down like a mangy dog even if you're Mother-fucking-Theresa?
If she's lucky, that'll happen today, tomorrow, or the next day. Someday soon so this can all just fucking stop, because doing shit is hell when nobody's gonna listen to you scream even when they do. She'd finish the job herself if she hadn't fucked it up so many times.
Get up. Don't die. Sleep. Good job, bitch, you woke up. Do it again. Forever.
It's easier with Jecka, so long as she keeps talking.

Barely two weeks into their final summer before college, Nicole and Jecka self-destruct into a firestorm of bottled trauma, lies, sex, drugs, and not nearly enough punk rock to justify their bullshit.
Unfortunately, or, in Emily's case, fortunately, the fallout is so catastrophic that it drags basically everybody they know into the inescapably messy black hole they’ve left in their wake.

Summary
Nicole and Jecka are in a near constant state of bickering about everything and nothing.
It's getting really stupid. What if they just stopped for a day? Truce, cease fire, no-fly zone. A break from their own bullshit in the middle of their last Summer vacation before college? Took a deep breath, stopped trying to push it all off, and just existed next to each other. Wasn't that the whole point of "them", anyway?
It works a helluva lot better than either of them expected.

Just before they leave town for good, Jecka finds a box of unused suicide notes in the back of Nicole's closet.
They shouldn't read them; it's a terrible idea. Even worse than saving them was. Barely enough paper to be cheap kindling.
So, Nicole burns all but one of them. She doesn't remember writing the note she saves.
All she knows for sure is that Jecka needs to hear it.

Summary
There's a bit of a wrinkle to Nicole and Jecka's clean exit strategy.
If they want to bring Jecka's car to college, it has to actually go with them. Either they pay way too much money to hire somebody to tow it seven-hundred miles due west, or they drive it there themselves.
Make a road trip out of it. See the 'sights' of Middle America along the way.
It'll be lame, sure. Boring as hell. But she'll be with Jecka, too.
So, why not, right?

Summary
Jecka screws up plugging in her phone before going to bed; misaligned the charger. Happens to everyone, but the one time she slips up is the time she wakes up to several hundred missed calls and half as many texts from Nicole.
She's moving out of state. Again. She's basically already gone. And that really sucks, yeah, but it could be worse. It's not like she's all that far away! Just a few hours on the interstate, and Jecka has a car so, in the grand scheme of things, the girl she is really kinda falling for being somebody she has to super deliberately make time to visit every weekend? Kinda romantic, and not in a gross way.
It's fine, though, it's all fine. Jecka can visit whenever she wants.
