Summary
Dick Grayson disappeared months ago, both from the world at large and from himself.
It chokes back down its noises — Master allows it wordless animal cries, but not words like people use. It has to be careful, because sometimes it wants to tell him to stop and that would be one of the greatest offences it can still commit.

Summary
Dick Grayson comes home. It's harder than anyone hoped for.
“You’re scaring him, B,” Master says, as he gets closer.
This is the car again, but it's trapped in his sight and there’s no corner it can try and disappear in, to despair of the audacity that it has to dare and exist so poorly within his purview.

Summary
The trials and tribulations of successful rescue that was months too late.
“If you can hear me, I would like you to tap the floor,” the tall man says. He doesn’t look away from the window, but his voice is steady. He’s hiding something, but it doesn’t— it knows pets aren’t meant to understand but it wants.
The tall man isn’t Master, but Master left and orders, even prettily phrased, are orders.
It hits the floor exactly once with the heel of its hand.Series

Summary
There's a difference between eating in captivity and eating in the safety of the Manor walls. It's hard for Dick, who can't see the difference. It's harder for his family, who can.
“He can,” the tall man says, “he just needs to know that he can.” His fingers on its wrist leave no doubt of their presence; steady and unmoving. It feels like he's trying to flay it apart, and pull all the awfulness that previous masters hadn't successfully cut away.

Summary
Dick tries to be good. It's hard, when the rules keep shifting.
He sits on the edge of the bed. “I have spoken to Drake. And I have given him a proposal. He does not like it, but I— Richard.” He swings his legs up and inches closer until he touches its side. A small hand runs through its hair. “There can be kindness in cruelty. Even if it doesn’t feel like it.”

Summary
Dick continues to struggle with the rules. His family learns them.
“I fear…any answer you can give me will be the product of your captors.” His mouth is downturned at the edges, despite the softness of his voice. “You, I think, trust my words no more than I can trust your understanding of them. But if you can trust anything, trust that I mean you no harm.”

Dick and Jason have a conversation.
“So, you're mine, then.” He's looking at it like he can see through it. “But I never told you what my rules are.”
“Please,” it says.

Summary
There's a light in Gotham city, and Dick will be more than buried six feet under before he ever truly forgets what it shines for.
“But, sometimes, you can only jump and hope that someone else sets a net.” The almost-smile is gone. “The jumps I can't stop.”
He stops, his hand slipping away. He looks at it, with some emotion it can’t name but it feels like it should.

that.
