Yet the creature took its time looking at Akutagawa's face before sticking out his tongue in an almost childish manner and dove back into the water.
That was the last time Akutagawa saw the creature.

So selfless at the hands of the predator.
Perhaps, they both were vanquished in their discoveries of each other at their most vulnerable. He refused to be privy to that, if they were to do this then he would make sure they did it in a destructive way.

Preparing to sigh and yield to nature, a light obstructed his already minor vision. A lamp was shoved in his face, but the heat of it– even if it was just grazing his cold, pink nose. It burnt. He felt like he was putting his face on fire. He tried to move away, it was too much. Too hot. Atsushi felt like he was melting but strong unyielding hands grabbed his elbows and pulled him into the unfamiliar body.
