“I think you got the wrong number,” Max barks.
“No— no,” the pup says hurriedly, and god help Max— he can hear a little hitch in his voice. “No. You’re the Lion. You help people. You need to help my mummy.”

Summary
"You can dance," Max told him. "We allow our omegas to dance here. It is not a crime."
George's breath hitched. He stole a glance at Toto, who was deep in conversation with the Lord beside him. Maybe it was okay, he thought, maybe it was allowed. He was only trying to curry favour, only trying to get Max to trust him. That's what he would say if Toto pressed him on it later.
George stood and slotted his hand into Max's outstretched one.

Summary
Max goes to the nest and stands at the edge. George feels small and stupid, one of Max’s cloaks working in his hands as he kneads the fabric. Max leans over and picks up a scrab from the nest, a small blanket, and presses it to his face briefly.
Then— pulls away. Grimaces at the smell. He drops the blanket, disgusted at George’s scent.
"God, George," Max mutters, his voice muffled behind his hand, gravelly and choked. He won't look directly at him. "What is that?"

George hears the low rumble of voices, the clink of bowls, the sharp yipping of Kimi somewhere to the left. His pack eating and laughing and evidently not looking for him. Oscar stops. “That them?”
George nods. His fingers tighten on Oscar’s sleeve. He doesn’t want to let go. He wants to say, don’t leave me yet. But that’s not fair. Oscar is a stranger— Oscar has already done more than George’s pack has done all morning. He can’t ask for more.

"George," Max says, his voice dangerously quiet, tight with a rage he has to work hard to suppress. "What were you doing locked in there?"
George lets out a breathless laugh; a brittle sound that cracks in his throat. "Locked? Oh, no, no. I-It sticks, you see. The wood, in the damp weather. It swells up. Toto... Toto told me to stay in bed and rest properly today. I... I must have just gotten confused. Thought it was stuck."
