Dick had always known he was different.
It wasn't just because he was raised in a traveling circus, or because he’d lost his parents in a tragedy that should have shattered him. It wasn’t even because he was Robin, the first and brightest of Batman’s protégés.
It was because he was an Omega.
And not just an Omega— one of the few in the world.
Omegas made up less than 0.1% of the population, a genetic anomaly so rare that the greater population would never meet one in their lifetime. They weren’t delicate, not in the traditional sense, but they were valued, and sought after. Coveted. Which meant that in Gotham—where power was currency and possession meant control—he was a target from the moment he was born.
Bruce had known. From the second he took Dick in, he’d known, and he’d made sure no one else ever would. Suppressants. Training. Control. Every measure was taken to ensure that the world would never see him as anything but strong.
But then, something changed.
The suppressants failed.
