Dahlia's first memory is waking up in Asra's arms.
After he helped her get back to normal—taught her to walk, talk, read and write—she became his apprentice.

After proving Julian innocent, or perhaps during the process -Anglues can't really rememeber anymore- Asra has been keeping a tighter and tighter hold on Angelus and his magic. Angelus doesn't really see the issues with this. Asra just want to keep him safe, Asra and the shop is all Angelus really knows.
Except they have fallen for Julian. Twice over.
With fleeting control of their magic, the scar across their face burning and spitting headache robbing them of memories, and a terrible feeling Asra might have the best intentions but not the best execution, Angelus fears for their freedom and personhood, and to lose Julian again.
OR I made Asra a bit more obsessed with the apprentice, to the point of holding them hostage in their own shop and stealing their ability to perform magic, and Julian to see the patterns from his own relationship with Asra years ago.
