How was he back, he knew he had lit the rig up, he could blatantly remember the feeling of heat on his skin before it all went black- it didn’t make sense!
Caz tried to reign in his breathing, swallowing back the lump in his throat as he struggled to breath. How was he back, was he back, was he dead?
Caz pinched himself hard without thinking, yelping pathetically as pain shot through his arm at the action. He definitely wasn’t dreaming then. That meant this was all real that he could never see Suze or his lovely weens ever again, that the girls would grow up without him- that he had truly abandoned them-
Biting back his ensuing panic he got up onto his shaky legs, intent on seeing if he could find anyone else. He had to find someone else.
This doesn’t make sense. The thought kept repeating in his head as slowly made his way towards the deck, the ruined and smashed deck by the looks of it.-

On the run from the police and mourning his failed marriage with the golden band that he still carries in his pocket, Cameron 'Caz' McLeary takes the advice of his friend Roy to join him for a temporary contract working the leccy on the Beira Delta Oil Rig in the North Sea. He promised his girls that he would be home for Christmas, and even divorced, he plans to not let them or Suze down again. On the rig he meets the maintenance worker for the diving bell and she's the only thing that seems able to shine in the grey and the miserable cold in the middle of nowhere.
His plan is to get home for Christmas, but maybe it doesn't have to be on his own...

“Muir!? What's going on? Where are ye-?” Rennick stopped shouting, mouth still hanging open as he heard the beeping of the cut line, “what the fuck is happening…?”

A swap au for still wakes the deep!! In which my favorite silly boy, Billy Chamberlain, takes Caz's place on the rig. After being beaten up by Caz, and sending the police after them, Billy Chamberlain decides to run away to work on the Beira once he gets hired. He's an engineer, and they miraculously let him on despite his lack of experience in the oil industry. Its a quick decision, and he says goodbye to no one. He has no one to say goodbye to, not anymore.
So, he runs away, hoping to escape the shame and guilt and ruined relationships and just how badly he fucked up, out there.
But mistakes catch up with you, one way or another, and sooner or later Billy'll find that he might've preferred staying on the mainland after all.Series
