Serena Campbell and Bernie Wolfe had a passionate affair as junior doctors, decades ago. Their reunion is under unusual circumstances, Bernie recovers from life changing injuries and estrangement from her children. Her work as a veteran's advocate is ideal for Serena's plan for a building a trauma centre. They are perfectly compatible as colleague and the old feelings burn with new appreciation as senior hospital staff and woman with personal challenges.

"Yes, the same, but a brief regrettable diversion gave me a new name and an ex-husband whose new bride is barely older than our daughter. I began writing this with just Bernie & Serena until I got writer’s block but as soon as I added Agatha, Rio and others the story took on a life of its own.
It’s a dark(ish) fantasy and hopefully you’ll enjoy this blend.

The overwhelming urge not to lose this loose thread of conversation, this moment with Bernie, the woman you had been pining for for months—ever since you started at Holby, all easily impressive—pressed against your chest in an erratic beat and, as so often, made you take the foolish decision to let your mouth run away with your thoughts.
“Do you—are you getting a drink?” you gesture to the bar and the empty whisky glass that’s sitting between the slender, wonder-performing, slightly nervously wringing hands of the blonde, “I was just about to get one. Not that you have to. Obviously. You can drink… elsewhere.”
“No, no,” Bernie says softly and shakes her head, loose blonde curls falling from where she’s tugged them behind her ears. “I’d actually love to have a drink with you.”
