"Mike was the first to point out that Boot the firehouse dog wasn't really eating so much as usual and seemed to be losing weight. Marco remarked that it was probably just because he was getting old, and old dogs just lost weight sometimes much like people. Chet found that to be a reasonable response and shrugged it all off... Everyone agreed, and the men of 51's A-shift shrugged it off as they had done before."
Even the best dogs don't get to live forever, no matter how much they're loved by their humans.
