I seriously cannot write summaries if you want to see the full gist of it, It's basically this: Lance comes out at a young age and gets shunned by his father, who was like super close, He hides his Gay so he and his dad will once more be okay. Keith grew up in an abusive household with Shiro, then one day, Shiro leaves. Meaning, he is left alone with his parents who aren't stable, so one day he runs away at like the age of 14 or 15, and ends up living with Coran and Allura. Okay fast forward, First day of Junior year, Lance and Keith meet and they hit it off well, over the course of time, they slowly fall and they date, but RUHROH Lance is afraid of getting found out, and Keith is starting to get comfortable in feeling loved BADA BING BADA BOOM SHIT GOES DOWN. Keith is just a quiet kid who just wanted to be out of the system. The foster homes he's sent to are terrible, abusing him no matter what he does. He just wanted to live with his best and only friend, Shiro. Sometimes life gets too much and pushes you to your breaking point. Keith has hit that point too many times to count.
Having to worry about an international space station on Earth and an emotionally unstable teenager is only two of Shiro's worries but he tries to make everything alright. Shiro would do anything to protect Keith from the real world.
Lance is just a normal 25 year old guy working at a coffee shop part time. Well, he's everything but normal.

The world is a fucked up place, has been ever since the very beginning. Although, it's gotten worse over time. Well, that's how Keith Kogane saw it.
In his eyes, everything was dull, having no meaning. Hell, he lived in Los Angeles, one of the most lively places in the world, but it was still as dull as watching paint dry.
Even so, in the eyes of Lance McClain, the world was bright and full of color. The Cuban boy had grown up in Cuba till the age of ten, then he moved to America. That's where he met his best friends, Pidge (Katie) and Hunk. He too lived in Los Angeles, but his and Keith's paths never crossed.
While Lance grew up surrounded by loving family, Keith grew up in foster homes and on the streets. After all, not everyone gets a happy life.
